Hello guys
okay I'm normally prity good with PC's and neworks but this has got me stumped, probably something simple.
I can only connect to my netgear via cable not wireless, but as soon as I connect the cable to the router....bingo.....wireless is working and I can unplug the cable.
At first I thought it was my wireless card but its definatly the router. The SSID is only transmit if I have a cable attached.
I have had the router about 4 years, its also got the latest firmware installed.
Thanks

have you got any other devices (phone, laptop etc) with wireless capabilities to check if they can connect via wireless? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Have you carried out a factory reset and reconfigured the router?0

I don't really want to do this but feel I must as a last option. I'm not sure weather or not the back up file will cause the same problem again.
Also, does the backup save ISP password as I've lost my letter.0 -
Not sure what you mean by back up file and how it would affect the router unless you're talking about your regular system back ups. It's unlikely to save your ISP password unless you have it written down in a document or on a notepad. Actually a factory reset is the easiest option but you do need your ISP username and password. Suggest you log into the router via cable and make a note of your details before you reset it. Do go to the Netgear website and download the instructions and save them on your desktop - in fact all the info you need will be there.0

The ISP password in the router is ******, thats why I don't want to reset the router as I have no password. Unless there's a way find out what ****** is?0 -

Maybe you need to contact your ISP for your details - I can't see any other way you can access them. Once you have them then reset the router and make a copy of the details somewhere.0 -

just had a check and the backup will contain the password. So when you've reset it and restored the config it should put the username and password back in for you.
Although you can also see your password in the config file using software such as http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/router_password_recovery.html which will allow you to take a copy of it.0
