YES Norton does slow your PC down.

YES Norton misses viruses, I have had 1 virus in 4 years on my desktop, Norton found it, couldn't delete it, couldn't quarantine it, Norton decided to then ignore it.

YES Norton is a virus, definition, eats system resources, slows your system down and near on impossible to get rid of.

    I use:-
    AVG
    Adaware
    Spybot

The method I use to clean a system up is to backup all documents and go for a restore (if your PC was provided with a restore disk), then reinstall the required software.

Did this on a dell laptop and it didnt have the dozen bits of freebie crud like AOL and Freeserve etc on it, ran like a dream. Did this on the desktop and same result.

On the dell computers i have, the restore function includes all the crud that was included when Dell shipped the PC to me. How to get it so that it just has Windows XP? I've just ordered a new dell laptop for my Dad and it appears that now they're sending out Windows CDs, which I hope will not include the added software.

    Hi Mobfant

I was recommended to use PC Decrapifier. Haven't tried it yet but I understand it is designed to work with Dells, and also works on other PCs too.
