Does Norton slow your pc ?

Norton is like those ppl that buy loo roll for £10 for 8. When theres much cheaper and reliable loo roll that one can get for £2 for 10.
And hoggy is an understatement. Not only do they take an incredible amount of power for it to not even find viruses that ZoneAlarm or NOD32 spot in a sec.
To be honest, that whole companies a sham.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

Can I also suggest changing your browser from Internet Explorer (if you haven't already) - it will also help minimize the virus/spyware risk.
Firefox or Opera (though Opera is a bit problamatic with some sites at the current version). They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.0 -
I took Norton off using their removal tool and guess what...
...my pc is lightening quick again :j
In doing so I've also fixed a problem. If I was reading a webpage for a while, the connection would drop and the only way I could get back onto the net was to reboot....It was a pain in the @ss
Right now...... " IM SURFIN NAKED " I got no protection.....and I feel liberated :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
...until they empty my bank account again

I would recommend you try the one year free trial of Computer Associate's anti-virus:
http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/Default.aspx?lang=en-US
You need to register to get the product activation key but I have used it for 18 months now, doesn't slow the machine down and I actually paid to renew it when the 12 months was up - which was a bit of a shocker for me really...
It just gets on with the task at hand - which is the sign of a good anti-virus product in my opinion.
Thanks

I gave up on Norton about 2 years ago due to its resource usage. I now use Avast which is free from here www.avast.com
Its highly rated (why has my text turned green? ) and performs better than Mcafee and Norton according to tests.0 -
Thanks for that
I've gone for NOD32 this time.
A tad expensive.....but it's supposed to be excellent.
We'll see

All my three lappies, bought over the course of 6 years, had Norton pre-installed on them. In blissful ignorance I carried on subscribing, thinking I was getting top security for good value, until my eyes were opened by peeps here on MSE. Got rid of Norton on all three, downloading a Symantec tool that removed it completely, then installed the following FREE software:
AVG
Ad-Aware
Spybot
Kerio
CCcleaner
All these put together take less space than the cumbersome Norton, and that shows in the speed. Ok, security is never 100% but I think this software is not bad at all for £0.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I feel you've made a very good choice there but baffled by your comment on it being expensive

Unless of course it has increased significantly since I got my sister to buy it and installed it for her - it was about £50 - for two years - this stacks up well I think against others and bearing in mind it's the best makes it, in my opinion, a bargain :beer:TornadoTom wrote:Thanks for that
