I have found a good deal for a Sim Free HTC Cha Cha. If I bought this would I be able to just put my ancient old Tesco sim card in it. I have had the Sim card for years and years and have always used it in in my payg phones that I bought from Tesco.

I didn't know if would work in the Cha Cha as it a Smartphone and I have only ever had vey basic phones

...assuming that the phone is either unlocked (sim-free) or locked to O2/tesco

Thanks both so much for your help. I am just amzed that my ancient old sim card will work in a new smartphone shows how little I know about mobile phones :D
  • If the handset is sim free then that generally means it is unlocked and should accept any sim card in any country. With your Tesco sim it would be worth checking that it is a 3G enabled sim and not just a standard GPRS as the HTC Cha Cha is a 3G handset. Although this wouldn't make a difference to making/receiving calls and texts making sure you have the a 3G sim card is definitely advisable if you want to get the best speeds out of the internet services on the handset.

    Hope this helps :D

Abercrombie thanks very much that does help. I would think that my sim card is just a standard one as it so old. I would want to access the internet on my phone so this would make a difference :)

I would give Tesco mobile customer services a ring in the morning and they would be able to tell you if you need a new sim card.
If you need a sim card they will be able to transfer your mobile number to the new sim.

Also, it is worth noting, that mobile internet (if available with the tariff) can be very expensive if it doesn't come from some monthly allowance.

I was going to use the £2 per week Tesco browsing pass. Hopefully this will be OK :)
