TO actually try and help answer your question, it would appear that the Fuji you speak of is limited to Jessops, so may be worth considering looking at other cameras from fuji around that price point.
By going to the Fujishop you can get good discounts on refurbished cameras from them. for example, the S4000 is £250 new, but £155 refurb. The S3200 new is £220, whilst refurb is £135. Both of these have Face recognition, which the lower S range do not have.
I say go with the fuji as I have used Fuji's.
However, I am sure that the Nikon is just as good. It is down to preference, and the only way you will know is by going to a shop and trying them out. See what they feel like in your hand, what the menus are like etc.etc.
It is also worth remembering that people have been taking amazing photos for over 100 years with cameras that took this thing called film, where they had to do everything, uncluding developing the photos. They didn't have the fancy computer controlled digital boxes we have today.
It is the person behind the camera that takes the picture, not the camera, so if you want to make sure you take good photos, learn a little about how to do so. This will save you more money than getting a good deal on a camera in the long run.0 -

I have 3 Fuji digital camera's I also have a Fuji film camera, they have never let me down & take great pictures.
Nikon top of the range camera's are great, as for the low end Nikon I would not know about them.
