Harveys: Order Delayed Big Time!

We ordered a couple of sofas from Harveys on May 1st with a estimated delivery period of 10 weeks. After that timescale came and went we called the store and was told there had been delays. Over the next few weeks we have had several excuses including the leather we ordered being out of stock and problems in Nigeria:eek:
Anyhoo, today, a full 17 weeks after ordering we have been told the delivery will be around the 30th September, 22 weeks from order. The store manager has promised us "good compensation" but I am just worried this date will be pushed back AGAIN. Also, he refused tio specify how good good was! We have paid 10% by credit card and put the rest on 36 months interest free. I am now wondering if we can cancel and go elsewhere.
Has anyone been in this position with this company and how much compensation were you offered?

we had the same problem with harveys, so we cancelled and was refunded our deposit without any problem. we then went to a small independant retailer and ordered the same sofa £100 cheaper and this was delivered in 8 days0 -
Thanks, going into the store today to ask the manager to give an indication as to the likely amount of compensation he is talking about and to get that promise in writing.
if we are not happy then we will ask to cancel and go to one of the other 2 sofa companies in the same retail park!0 -
Went in yesterday, he assured us Sept 30th would be the date of delivery and he said compensation would be around £100. Not what I was hoping for so I asked to cancel but he said it couldn't be done.
He did say that if there was another delay he would cancel and refund our deposit so we shall wait and see.
Still very unhappy but not much we can do about it but wait.:mad:0 -
Beancounter, I think you now need to write a letter to the retailer.
In the letter, make time of the essence.
Spell out that if the goods are not delivered by 30 September then the contract will be terminated and a full refund will be due.
Always good to get something written down in these circumstances.0 -
Just need to get some further advice on this....
We eventually received the sofas, one was damaged so a replacement was ordered. We received it on Xmas Eve, The colour was noticeably different to the first and the quality of leather on the arm rests was really poor. They again agreed to replace this (and the other one to make sure we have a matching pair colour wise).
These are due for delivery tomorrow. Should there be any issues with these I was wondering what our rights would be. Can we demand our money back and go elsewhere? Surely they have to get it right 4th time!!0
