He is my husbands friend at work and i don't think hes breeding them more of an accident i think. Not entirely sure on that one.

    .

If he had his dogs neutered - Im assuming it wasnt a stray dog that caused the pregnancy - then this wouldnt happen. How many of these poor pups are going to end up on death row in the next couple of years?

PLEASE if you have one, tell them to listen to that recording, have some heart and have their dogs neutered. No dog lover would want to think of more little souls going for their last injection in a cold pound, alone, unloved and unwanted.

I understand what your saying about neutering as i had my girl done after her first season on the vets advice and i would have the new one done asap BUT i came on here for advice about the breed not the breeder.

I can't make people stop doing things, wish i could but the pup i have will be loved for life responsibly :)

Appreciate that, but if each individual doesnt make a stand against this madness, why would people stop breeding if someone still buys the pups?

BTW a quick google and you will find hundreds of unwanted staff pups in rescues, often born there.

    Hi,

hope this doesn't come out the wrong way but rather than 'support' your neighbour to continue breeding, why don't you look at rescues instead?

Its not my neighbour and i don't support breeding at all, the dog just happens to be pregnant so the pups need new homes regardless of where they came from and the rescues round here have waiting lists for pups. We also will not be paying for the pup, so i'm not lining his pockets at all.

I haven't made the decision to have a pup was just looking for breed advice to help me make an informed decision.

A staffie is not a breed dog, it is a mongrel based loosely on the Staffordshire bull terrier, the reason they are called staffies is because they fail the breed standard as most have one type of pit bull or another merged in the blood line.
These dogs are renowned for tendency to attack other dogs and as the Law makes you liable for any damage caused by an attacking dog something to be wary of, however some can be non aggressive.
Despite the bull preached by many staffie owners, the Acid test is that ANY dog that is instantly aggressive towards other dogs is a dog not fit to be near children

Utter nonsense. They are not merged with pit bulls, they simply share a common ancestor. Get your facts right.

They do not have a 'tendency' to attack other dogs, mine is about as sociable with other dogs as it's possible to get.

This is just part of the unfortunate reputation they have gotten as a result of the idiots who tend to get staffies, and then raise them to be aggressive. Any dog can be aggressive when trained to be so.

I'd be glad if staffies weren't "breed dogs", those poor little beggars deeply inbred to produce an animal that some small select group of people deem the ideal visual form for them. No matter the terrible suffering it often causes the poor animal due to health problems, not to mention psychological & behavioural issues. Not to mention the fact that these award winning genetic butchers are fully aware of the health issues of their breeding stock and their tiny gene pool (should that be puddle).
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I love staffies and we had a lovely lady called Anni when my kids were small (actually I had the two boys after we got the dog). They were known as Nanny dogs for a good reason! endlessly patient with babies, toddlers, small children and everyone else (the exceptions being those the dog considered a threat to her 'charges'). I soon learned I could trust her with the kids, as she seemed to consider her job to be looking after them! she would sit for hours when they were in the carrycot just watching them and if one of them so much as whimpered, she would immediately fetch me!
That dog allowed herself to be dressed in baby clothes (and taken for a walk), had her toenails painted sparkly purple and other colours, and bedecked with enough jewellery to sink a boat!
she was very protective of me and the kids - but apparently thought OH was big enough to look after himself!
I could never work out whether she was a genius or thick! wouldnt learn tricks like my springer did - but had nice 'manners' and until the end of her life a very clean dog!
Would I have another Staffy if I were fit enough? In a second! they truly are lovely kind gentle dogs (with thier humans)! Though I do have to say that while she liked cats, hamsters and gerbils well enough - she didnt much like other dogs and wasnt above starting a fight! except with the mongrel up the road who she fell in love with! That was so funny but its another long story!

That is my Molly, she is an amazing dog, has so much patience, brought her up with DD1, dressing her up, painting her toes, putting her in the pram with DD1, and DD1 putting her in her dolly prams, she loved it. She is nearly 11 now, have DD2 who is 4, she still does the same things but not for long, she soon comes to me when she has had enough of DD2. Amazing dog. But she not that keen on other dogs that want to play, she don't mind then but when it comes to them jumping on her like our puppy she soon tells him. In fact she runs away from him now, she avoids him, and won't walk any where near where he is. It's cute to watch, but she knows she will tell him off, so she wants to be a good girl.

Sam our other staffy who passed away now, was just as patience, he was weary of DD2 at first but soon become to be protective, he used to jump up like a kangaroo to see her in her pram, lick her head when she was on our lap, and lay right by our feet.

It just goes by how they are brought up, really it does, they are amazing dogs, and if I could I would adopt the lot that are in care.

I've had to smile reading these posts as my boy matches most of the descriptions.

He's 2 and still thinks he's a pup who can snuggle up on your lap. He's the lickiest dog ever - everyone who comes to the door has to receive a sloppy kiss. The RSCPA chugger fella who came the other week ended up rolling on the front lawn with my daft lad! He's a rubbish guard dog!:)

He's endlessly patient with my kids and follows me everywhere - even to the loo, like a toddler. He sighs like the weight of the world is on his shoulders and then will spring up and chase his tail like it's the newest game in the world!

He's currently draped over the back of the sofa, all four stone of him, dozing and watching BB.

I have never seen him display any signs of aggression. Not even when other dogs have attacked him. He just rolls on his back with this goofy grin and then scarpers!

When it's his time to go over the rainbow bridge, I will definitely have another Staff. I don't think I could live without the love! :A

this is just like my staffie, she just licks and licks and licks! follows me everywhere (i call her my shadow!) and just wants to be friends with everyone (adults, children, dogs, cats!) shes never been aggressive with other dogs, she just wants to play!
