Gap between completion and getting the keys?

  • Awww, so glad you got the keys and congratulations on your new home. It can be sad sometimes when you think of the previous owners but I'm sure they would wish you every happiness now it is your home. We found a package at the back of a kitchen cupboard which I imagine must have fallen down the back of the drawer and it had the name of the funeral director on the front and inside lots of lovely things including necklace, earrings and wedding and engagement rings, it gave us a lump in our throat.

Although I was a bit :( cos it's a probate sale, the vendor died and his son was selling it, and there were albums full of black and White photos including the parents wedding photos and holidays snaps and slides....can't believe they were just left in the corner on the floor :(

Perhaps a quick phone call to check if they want it back is in order...

Thank you all for your comments - I think I've learnt more from all you guys over these past few months than my solicitor and EA!
Will be calling the EA on Tuesday to let them know about the photos and stuff.

I am so happy! The house needs plenty doing to it which is both daunting and exciting! Thank you all xxx

Maybe you could call the solicitor who will have the vendors details. I wouldn't trust the ea to pass on the message, they have had their money and don't care a stuff now, this is obvious from their complete disinterest in you getting the keys.

I exchanged on my house yesterday and had the same problem. I am still waiting for them to get back to me.

I do have the keys but they don't know that as the vendor gave them to me at the house when I went to see if they were still there.

The vendor had no intention of informing the ea as they had had such a bad service from them so as far as the ea knows the keys are missing.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Sometimes things are delayed on the day , we didn't get our keys till late in the day as the people moving out were taking soooooo long to get their stuff shifted... just keep hassling them and I doubt they'll be open on Bank Holiday Monday... good luck

Moving out on the day you no longer own the property.
    What could possibly go wrong???

It's the vendors responsibility to make sure the new owner gets the keys on completion. The estate agent can act as a middleman but it won't matter at all to them if a vendor plays silly games with the keys on completion

Our property was owned by an old woman who had to move into a home and they left it furnished. We agreed to clear anything they didn't want (got it cheaper for this) but we have found a few photo albums / pictures hidden in nooks.

We've boxed it all up and luckily have the vendors details (private sale) so will call them once we're fully unpacked and sorted to arrange for them to collect.

It might be worth asking your solicitor if they want to contact the vendor, think that would be nice :)
