Gap between completion and getting the keys?

Options
Are these not done of the same day?? And once you have "completed" does your mortgage start from that day?

I have completed and was supposed to pick up keys today but EA keep telling me they'll ring me "soon" to pick up keys and I've already rang them twice. They're short staffed today but how many people do they need to hand over keys? If I don't get it today then I got to wait til Monday at the earliest and that feels ages away! And if my mortgage starts today and I'm the legal owner then I feel miffed that I don't have keys :(

Sometimes things are delayed on the day , we didn't get our keys till late in the day as the people moving out were taking soooooo long to get their stuff shifted... just keep hassling them and I doubt they'll be open on Bank Holiday Monday... good luck

On the other hand, as you are now the owner of the property, key or no key, you can get possession of the property. Paying for a locksmith to attend may or may not be worth it, it depends on your plans re. moving in, redecorating, etc.

Oh I forgot about bank holiday!
It's probate sale so it's unoccupied and all stuff was removed in my presence last week

Lean on the EA - very heavily! You need the keys to ensure the property is ok and that you are in possession of all the sets of keys. Although if the vendor is being tardy about handing over the keys in your shoes I would get a locksmith to change the locks tomorrow morning. (some buyers have all the locks changed as a matter of course when they complete on a property, as there's no guarantee that the vendor hasn't given/lent keys to someone else and forgotten about it).
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

They're not even answering the phone now. I have a feeling the office might be closed and considering I just spoke to someone
30 mins ago who said he'd let me know it would've been good customer service to let me know!!

We were in a similar situation, problem with most of the EA's once the sale is done they dont care. They know that they are getting their commision, I suggest send a strongly worded document to their office asking them to explain the situation. Hopefully they wont treat someone else the same way.

Ask your solicitor what arrangements he made for key collection.

Has the vendor's solicitor actually acknowledged receipt of funds and that keys can be released?

If key release was to be via agent and completion has been confirmed I would be in the agent's office until they handed them over.

Estate Agents are probably open on Saturday. Get on to your solicitor to confirm that completion has taken place and then get yourself down to the EA and make them hand over the keys. If they've already closed for the day, go in tomorrow and camp out until they hand them over.
