You are entered in to the draw one full month after buying the bonds.

So if you buy now in April they don't go in the draw until June. Yeah I know I always thought it was May draw not so.

And if you wait 3/4 days after the 1st you can check on the website to see if you have won so we always know before if pops through the letter box. I know spoil sport.

on the front page is a checker just need your holder number.

Also have a feeling that you can buy over the phone as well now.

You can buy premium bonds via the telephone (call 0500 007 007) and also via the web at the NS&I website.

To buy them over the phone you must have a debit card in your own name.

What we have done is cash in all our odds and sods and group them into batches of £5k, so we have £15k in consecutive numbers and then some more in loose change. We work on the theory that the bigger the net!

Lunacy. You have no better chance of winning with a block of consecutive numbers than you do with them arranged any other way. The "bigger net" is totally irrelevant - multiple proportionately smaller nets are just as effective.

By cashing in and rebuying you have missed out on two months' draws, costing yourself an expected £80.

The number of people who continue to believe that continuous blocks are better is a source of regular amazement and amusement to me. Basic mathematics is clearly a mystery to many people.

Yeh I won £50 too, thats on a £4k holding
  • Bought £2,000 worth of bonds in May so first draw they were in were this month's July and we won £50. Hope my luck continues.

Tip: As you have to wait one full calendar month before your newly purchased bonds are entered into the draw, keep the money in an interest earning account and only buy the bonds towards the end of the month.

When I had 5000 a few years ago I won 1000 on my 1st draw.

    So it can be done.
