Blackberry juice stain!

Savvy_Sue wrote:I spent a couple of hours picking blackberries this afternoon, and because I had so many I stewed some. Trying to get the lid on the bowl, I spilt them all over my tumble drier. I'm not too worried about that, or the new sheet which got splashed because that's dark brown, or the floor which was off white and may now need to be painted pink ... but I am a bit sad about my new pink trousers, which I was wearing at the time and which got a bit splashed!
Because it's so late (or early, depending on which way you look at it), I have just put them to soak in cold water and I'm hoping for the best. Any tips if that doesn't do the trick? Blackberry's not really my colour ... and I know DH was trying to help when he said at least it was the right colour, but it's not!
A bit of bleach in the water Savvy.. Dont go mental or anything.. possibly a capful.. worst senario is that they may be white tommorrow..0 -
The bleach may ruin them...try Oxy powder - you buy it in a small tub - put a teaspoon or so in a bowl of hot water and leave for 30 minutes. This got out some fruit stains off a new blouse and some very old coffee stains this week for me.0

Oxy powder shifts all sorts of food and drink stains, so I'd give it a go. If you don't have any, try Poundland or (a little surprisingly) Farmfoods - it can be very overpriced in some other shops. Your DH is partly right - any small residual trace of the stain will be camuoflaged on the pink trousers.
Are the brambles ripe already where you are? They're early this year!0 -
I got blackberry jiuce on my jeans (that's what comes of carrying them home in a paper bag). I forgot to treat them and it washed out fine in a normal 40degree wash :T Of course, they hadn't been stewed.
Fingers crossed, maybe you'll be lucky.0 -
As Talitha says, do nothing at first. Simply was them as normal. The whole stain may come out - but at the very least, it should weaken. You can then decide what to do next.
I know it's not OS, but if you have some of that ACE bleach, it might work on a weakened stain and isn't harmful like normal bleach.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Thank you everyone. I've got some of that liquid Ace stuff which I sometimes add to white washes. When I get home tonight I'll see what's left after the cold water soak, didn't have time this morning.Contains_Mild_Peril wrote:Are the brambles ripe already where you are? They're early this year!
The apples are not ready yet, so I'm hoping some of the blackberries will hang on until they are. There were certainly plenty of unripe ones left in my garden yesterday!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Well, here I am home. The Practical Chap has pulled out the tumble drier and cleaned underneath and behind the fascia vent so that we don't have a smell of blackberry jam when we next use it. He says it smells better than the soup which exploded a month or so back - and he's quite right! :rotfl:
I think the trousers will be OK stainwise, they're in a wash right now. But after holding them up to check for stains, I'm a bit worried that they might have shrunk ... In my hurry to get the stains out, I forgot to check the washing instructions, and they're dry clean only!
Fortunately, although they were brand new, they were pre-owned new, so didn't cost a fortune! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Can anyone help with the removal of blackcurrant juice from a lambs wool jumper?
Thank you!!0 -
Hi Sydney
I've added your question onto an earlier thread on the subject of blackberry juice which should be of help. You'll need to read from the beginning.
