My first one would actually still work I think if we bought some new parts for it (think it was something to do with the paddle and the cogs underneath being worn). Its sitting upstairs in my husbands 'to tinker with' pile.:p
I just bought a new family one because we needed a bigger one and I think the parts were quite expensive and didn't want to pay out for them if it wasn't what we thought that was wrong with it.

Been looking at one of these for a while now as my hubby likes his chips but some of the ones he buys feel so greasy, I hate touching them to even put them in the oven.

I heard you can cook loads of different things in one of these, not just chips. Does it come with a small cook book with ideas or would there be somewhere (maybe a thread on here) where people have posted different things they cook in it.

Lastly if I buy this, do you guys recommend I take out insurance with it in-case it does smoke after a few years?

I think that they are well worth the money. Like others I am now on my third one, due to them giving up the ghost. I bought them at Costco - you just get a full refund and then go round the shop and buy another one, better than insurance really- price had reduced each time! So if you know anyone with a membership its probably the best option.

Mine came with a small cookbook as well.

Well mines just burst into flames and died. Luckily I've been expecting that to happen after all the info I've read on it, so have never left it alone and was able to put the fire out soon after it started.
    A bit scary though!
I love the chips so off to look for the next one............maybe family sized??? I didn't know they made a larger one either.

I have been looking for one of these. After reading this thread I had a look on Amazon and they have the big Black one for £151.50 this price is 47.50 cheaper than Currys.
