The failure to be able to speak to anyone is common on suspended accounts, the seller forum is full of reports like yours. I think you are facing an impossible task though unless they will accept a full declaration with paperwork showing that you are a distinctly seperate company from the previous owners.

Look at it from their point of view as that might help you decide what the most important info is to get across to them. They see a seller with the same stock, at the same premises logged on from the same IP/PC- why wouldn't they think you were the same company under a different name? If you can work out what the vital bit of info is to prove that you are not connected then hit them with that.

You might never get this sorted though as in peoples eyes you are the same. We had a similar issue in my local town with a pet shop. Terrible reports came out about animal cruelty and th eplace was bombarded with protests, hate mail etc. The original owners were eventually jailed and the business sold and reopened a few months later under a new name. yet it was still a pet shop and people only saw that. The new owners sold up quite quickly as the protests continued as no one would believe it wasn't the same people.

The building is now empty as no one else will touch it with a bargepole.

    I have some good news...

In the many e-mails I send off, one was to Jeff Bezos (jeff@amazon.com) he is the managing director of amazon in the USA - their big boss. In the e-mail I explained what had happened and he passed it on to the manager of seller support who got back to me and reinstated my account.

The only slightly annoying bit is that I have to go through all 400 listings and unblock each one indervidually but to do that its worth it to get my account back :)

I did try the amazon number but they basically told me to e-mail seller performance and they wern't particually that helpful but one of their call handerlers did sympathersise with my situation and did offer some useful advice. I think its just hit and miss with who you talk to.

Thank you for all your help and advice.

    Yeah, it's usually like that.

Well done :T - persistence pays off - although I guess since your business depended on it you weren't going to let it go.

One tip for the future is make sure any s/h computers are wiped and reformatted before using them as this is a big thing for account security with marketplace sites (as no doubt you know). It's been three years since eBay established a policy of placing cookies on machines to make sure that the right person was accessing the right account and that they could trace any unauthorised remote access. (A major online game has started doing this recently as well.) So I guess this also unfortunately allows them to flag up any attempts by banned users to reconnect to the system.

this may sound a bit thick but how do you properly wipe or reformat a PC?

Do you just set up a new log in on the computer and just use that or is there more to it?

It may be worth popping over and asking at the Teche board, http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29
