Arnold Clark - MOT partial retest - how much?

Hi,
My car failed its MOT at Arnold Clark on one thing (incomplete rear coil spring). The paperwork states that a retest will be carried out free of charge if I do not take the car away and have the repairs carried out by them, but if I take it away a retest charge may apply.

Apart from the fact that the repair at AC was going to cost an arm and a leg, I needed to take my car away to pick up my kids from nursery. I can get the repair carried out for half the cost AC quoted me, but does anyone know how much they charge for a MOT retest?

Thanks,

Amanda

It's as safe as it was when they were dropped off in the morning.

To answer the op , usually anything from free, to half the test price.

    How do you know that?

Does it say they were dropped off in that car?

No, you just jumped to that conclusion.

Obviously you assume the op has a another car for the morning run?

Or maybe a fleet to choose from?

I guess from the last sentence, you have no idea what "incomplete rear coil spring" means. It means a suspension spring is broken. That can affect handling and in some cases result in the suspension collapsing in that corner.

    Drive slowly. ;)

My local AC does not charge for a retest (especially if you paid the full price) that's why it say 'may' rather than 'will'!

If it's failed is it not illegal to drive it other than to a place of repair or testing station?

depends if the previous mot has run out.. if No then its legal to drive although i personally wouldnt like to with a knackered spring.. bit could come off and cause the tyre to pop..

if theres no test at all on it now then only to place of repair/mot station..
