Land of Leather / Castelan Insurance Claim Rejected

can you post picks off the offending article? no i do not work for them, i have heard off them from previous dealings with homeserve,
but i am an upholsterer and have delt with many clients dealing with issues with land of plastic.
ask for a second inspection from a different technician as you where unhappy with his evaluation and that he advised you of false pretences of work being carried out by saying he was going to take the covers off etc etc this should be free but if no manufacturing fault is found you will usually be charged a callout charge 40 60quid , if there is any difference in reports there will be a good chance you could get something moving along. obtaining an independent report from a local upholster advising of any manufacturing defects will also score loads of brownie points and be sure to send a copy recorder delivery to there offices. be sure to pester them with phone calls on a day to day basis keeping track of names and times asking as to why the work will not be carried out, like most they will soon pay up just to keep you quiet,0 -
I think we have a Castelan troll,I think you have every right to expect the warranty to deal with you leather match issue.Land of leather sold these warrantys in good faith,The real problem is the warranty company has lost its income stream hence dodging any claims.
(I am by trade a master upholsterer with over thirty years dealing with upholstered furniture, beds and carpets)
why not offer some advice on how to resolve the issue??, land of leather are no longer in existence, the t@c clearly state that he is not covered. so the insurance will not resolve it, he has already been advised of this, what good is saying I am by trade a master upholsterer with over thirty years dealing with upholstered furniture, beds and carpets,
poor you, 30 years doing that crap and all you can give is company has lost income stream hence dodging claims, you sure learnt a lot.
tip 1, i droped my phone in the lake, checked my geek squad insurance, under t@c clearly stated, full submersion will not be covered all tho it covers water damage,
tip 2, i switch my phone off and tell the scamming gits that i lost my phone in the park.
tip 3, i received a shiny new phone due to doing some research.
what you should have done is read your policy, fully and understood it before making a claim. as for me i would have got my friends bullmastiff and get him to eat large holes in the sofa as pet damage would be covered. or i would have pretended a child spilt some sort of chemical all over it. or anything that would cause damage grater then the value of the item.
im not one for lying but believe me, every insurance company will find any way of not paying out, you need to look after no1
all you can hope for is for someone to say that there is a manufacturing defect with that sofa that you have. preferably with one off there employees0 -
Hi,
I have had the same trouble with my Land of Leather Sofa as all of you and first complained to Castelan back in January re the leather peeling away. They came back with the same response as you have all been getting, I was advised to appeal which i did only to get a generic letter from them.
I forwarded my claim to the Financial Ombusdsman who fully investigated my claim and upheld my claim forcing Castelan to repair my sofa. The whole process has taken just over 9 months and still ongoing as Castelan have now lost the leather section that was sent away for repair but thats another story.
The financial ombusdman in his report used the "Structural Defect" section to support my claim and that the engineers photos clearly show's the "peeling of leather".
Dont give up we did not pay for the furniture cover for nothing.
I now have 6 other complaints sitting with the Financial Ombusdman as Castelan do not want to know, I am not letting up in my fight with them.
Good luck:T0 -

Hey Homeserve are a bunch of jokers, there is most likely a huge legal issue with what they are doing, basically take it to the Financial Ombudsman, the administrators for Land of Leather, Deloitte told me that they were taking out insurance policies with customers on Land of Leather sofas, knowing it was "Leather Match", but their policy does not cover "Leather Match", therefore they apparently knowingly created insurance policies for items they could not cover... they also apparently tried to pan off all their remaining insurance complaints to the administrator which would mean each customer would get a very small dividend on each pound they spent in Land of Leather... i.e. for my £1000 or so sofa, I would have got £60, they suggested it to me also so I can vouch for that ridiculous "easy way out". but I didn't give up and got a new suite from the jokers, and because I was still paying finance on it, the finance company is legally "liable" for the purchase so they cut a good chunk off my repayments too... and then when I got my new suite from Harvey's they tried to sell me the same furniture cover... I found out from my home insurance, people should NOT take out this cover if they have home insurance as home insurance covers damage to furniture!
Another company I will NEVER give a penny to is Homeserve!0 -
Hi guys
Some good news. The Ombundsman found in our favour and we were informed that the sofa would be repaired :j
After hearing nothing for 3 weeks we contacted the Ombundsman and within 2 days we get a call from Castellan / Homeserve who agreed to send out a repair person who would take more pictures etc.
Received a letter yesterday basically saying they cannot find the materials and we can either take around £400 cash or receive a credit voucher for just over £900 which can be used in Harveys.
It does pay to complain and fight your corner.0 -
Hi there,
I am in the same boat as everyone else. Bought three piece sofa in December 2010 for more than £1k, and paid £200 to the same bunch of thieves, Castelan for 5 year insurance. I made a claim over a month ago, and no response from them. So I called them today, and they were so slimey! I couldn't claim for the cuts and tears on the arms of the furniture. The lady I spoke to came out with a pack of lies. It's unbelievable. I've sent a complaint letter to them, still awaiting reply. I'm seething at their con. They seem to be doing this on a regular basis. They didn't even send someone round to assess the damages. Just lies upon lies. Any advice on what next to do. I copied the Financial Ombudsman my complaint.:mad:0 -
Definitely include the Financial Ombundsman. A lot of ppl on here (me included) have taken them on and won. Fight it all the way.0
