Help! Bright White Smiles

Options
Okay so I was clearly a bit of an idiot this weekend.

I was in Superdrug in Glasgow City Centre and there was 2 guys (with very white teeth I may add!) selling a home teeth whitening kit. I was pretty sceptical as I've seen home kits before and I've just not been convinced that they won't do mega damage to my teeth.

Anyway, I'm getting married and I was going to get my teeth whitened anyway so when these guys offered me 2 kits for £60 (one would make your teeth 7 shades lighter and if you used the 2nd straight after it would be another 5 shades) I thought that was a good deal for relatively little money.

I asked the guys about damage and they told me there's only 0.1% Hydrogen Peroxide in it so it will do very little damage to the actual tooth and just clean it effectively. I asked if there's any guarantees on it working and they said (and I quote) "There's peroxide in it, it can't NOT work".

Clearly, it can. I've been walking about the house like Mike-bloody-Tyson for an hour a day and after 6 days - no difference. Litterally none at all. I've taken pictures to show.

The instructions in the kit say that more kits can be bought from their website - but there's no web address and no phone number anywhere in the kit they've gave me. I called Superdrug this morning and she said it is an outside company that come in but she'll try to get a number for me (this is my best lead so far!).

I checked the receipt and there's a number for New ID Studios Quality Cosmetics (presumably another product they were selling) and I've tried to call that and it's rang out every time. I've sent them an email through their website but I've seen so many complaints about THIS company now that I'm not holding my breath.

Now, I know it's partially my own stupidity (and trust me, I feel like an absolute MORON for doing this) but I really want to get in touch with the company to complain. Correct me if I'm wrong, but am I not within my rights as the product clearly wasn't fit for purpose?

Does anyone have any other ideas of how to get in touch with them if Superdrug don't get back to me? Lurk about their stores next week? :rotfl:

Oh no! I just bought that very kit.. what do I do?

Edit: I called the superdrug that I bought the product from and managed to speak directly to the guy who sold it to me. He said to call 020 7231 3560. Or visit the website beautygroup.org.UK (they are sourcing it, rather than the producers) I visited the website and found no trace of the product, so called the number. I'm waiting to hear back from the manager who was about to enter a meeting.(I'm not keeping my hopes up 0-o)

I hope either of those contact details are of use to you :)

Anything which is legal for home use ie below 0.1% hydrogen peroxide cannot and will not whiten teeth. Research from everyone dentists, which, this morning have shown this!

Anything over 0.1% hydrogen peroxide is illegal both to supply and sell over the counter.

As these kits can be bought for £8.95 each on the net I suspect there is not alot inthe syringes but you might want to take them to trading standards to check. If this stuff did work can you imagine the damage it would do to your gums using the poorly fitting trays?

Superdrug is only renting out space to a concession and the best you might get from them is an undertaking not to do so again. However I would write to head office telling them if your problems contacting the vendors.

On the plus side at least you haven't permanently damaged your teeth and gums which can easily happen with illegal kits.

The conclusion "legal" whitening kits and toothpaste don't work, they may remove a bit of stain that's all. Illegal kits can permanently damage your teeth and gums. If you want a quick fix for wedding photos use Photoshop otherwise see a dentist to lighten teeth if you are suitable for treatment and many people are not.

Thanks! Did he get back to you?

Someone called me on Thursday afternoon from the company themselves and said that he's really sorry and it's the first complaint that they've had and they'll refund me. He said he would send me an email to confirm and then get it sorted early next (this) week.

Got no email so tried to call back and no answer so I sent a text (it was a mobile number) with my email address because it's often misspelled, no response. I called on Friday and left a voicemail and he text me back saying he did get my message and someone from the technical team is going to call me today (Friday). No call by 4pm so I text back again and asked if I was going to be called or will it be Monday...no response.

I called today and it went straight to voicemail so I'm giving him 'till 3pm before calling again and I will just keep phoning until I get something from them. I can give you the mobile number if your route doesn't work!

Bear in mind that it's a bank holiday today for much of the UK.

Ah I totally forgot. It's not a bank holiday in Scotland unfortunately :(

Still gonna call him, but if it goes to voicemail I'll not leave another message.

    Thanks!

Got a call back (at 5 to 3!) from the tech guy I was promised. He asked what had happened and long story short, it turns out it was meant to be 12 applications and not 6. I explained that the reps in Superdrug had told me 6 and said that I would definitely see a result after 2/3 days.

Explained this to the guy on the phone and after a bit of trying to explain that I'd did it wrong I said that in that case I've been missold. He asked if I still had the 2nd kit (which I do) and said that he can organise for another kit to be sent to me free of charge!

I told him at this point that by no means do I want another kit and I was told on Thursday I would get a refund. He said he'd pass the message on to the Glasgow office and get someone to call me back.

    Here's hoping :(

Out of curiosity, does it have instructions included and what does that say about it?
