Slow Internet Speeds

I've been with my broadband provider for just over a year. At the beginning of last year there were no problems with the internet and the speed was okay. A few months down the line problems began to appear.
I'd have frequent drops around the end of the month and was advised to do many things (i.e change the frequency of my router, move it to the master socket, ect). Then my internet speed became really slow we're talking 5 minutes to load a simple web page. I called my provider up and they advised that my profile had been set at a lower speed and adjusted it accordingly and the speed was fine.
A few months later I began to get dropouts again and got a new router. New router solved the problem for a few days and internet speed was as normal but for the past week the internet speed has been the same as it was a few months ago. I've spoken to my provider and they've advised that an engineer needs to come out to look at the problem :cool: which I am not too happy about as I feel they may try and pin the charge on me.
I want to know can my internet provider reduce my internet speed without telling me? The past few months I've been nearing my internet allowance usage most months. (I have a 60GB allowance and I've been reaching 45GB usage) and I have an idea that they may do this to reduce internet?

Who is your ISP?
Are the drop outs only when connecting wirelessly?
Log on to your router and post its line statistics.

Looks like your ISP has capped your speed. With a 60db line you should be getting around 3mbps download speed.
I'd get back onto them.

Sorry to hear about the speed issues, sounds like they may well be due to a dropping connection though if the router is in the master socket (without any extensions as mentioned above) then it'll be as stable as it can be, which is for the best. If you could post a ticket ID I'd be happy to take a look into it for you?

We'll never reduce your speed without telling you. You should receive emails as you're getting close to your monthly limit, and unless you've set a Data Transfer Watch amount in your member's centre we'll add extra usage rather than limit your connection speed.
To add to this, if we do reduce the speed it won't have any effect on the rate at which your router connects (the bandwidth value in the stats you quote above) - this is entirely down to the connection between the equipment in your local phone exchange and your router, and we don't have any control over that.Looks like your ISP has capped your speed. With a 60db line you should be getting around 3mbps download speed.
Around that, though not with a downstream SNR value of 15dB. It's likely this has been set as such by the DLM equipment in the exchange in order to stabilise the line. Also as I said above, it's impossible for us to have any effect on the sync speed between the router and the exchange (though we can affect the throughput.)
Hope that helps, as I said if you could post a ticket ID in here we'll take a look for you and see if we can give the fault a kick.
