I would imagine so Gilly from previous experience my bottles have been sterilised in a different brand of steriliser. For example my NUK bottles went into an avent steriliser and later mothercares own electric seriliser (the Avent one kept breaking down) I would imagine its still the same now but will stand corrected if not :)

That's great thanks :) I like the look of the Nuby bottles actually, but I'm not sure if they're anti colic or not.

I too would highly recommend the MAM ones. The self sterilizing feature is brilliant especially in the early days of very frequent feeding and the need to take your baby to visit elderly or infirm family members. I prefer them to Dr Browns bottles as they are far less fiddley but achieved exactly the same outcome which seemed strange to me as the MAM ones were so much cheaper. I bought the microwave sterilizer and 6 bottles 9 weeks ago when my daughter was 2 weeks old and the sterilizer and a 3 pack of bottles are still unopened as I wash and sterilize after each feed and have no worries about actually remembering to switch on the sterilizer after loading it up. They are lots cheaper from Amazon if you are just buying bottles though. It was me who posted about problems with TT bottles if you click on my user name and look at previous posts you will find my post on the pregnancy thread relating to the problems we had.

I didn't realise they self sterilised thats a really good feature I did notice the difference in price though and noted they were so much cheaper they sound really good.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences so far OH and I really appreciate it just trying to get the right thing from the off I remember having DS1 and having so many different bottles on the go and it was a nightmare.

I haven't seen those ones yet. I wanted to buy something that is stocked in most places with DS1 I used the tall slim NUK bottles which were at the time being replaced by wider necked bottles here in the uk so anytime I needed any replacement teats sealing discs I had to buy online was a bit of a pain especially when one of the orders got lost in the post and then had to wait to make sure it was lost before they would do anything about it  DS waited ages for his new next size teats !

From looking online the Nuby bottles say they are anti colic, and from what I'm aware, Boots stock them in the stores. They are likened to the closest thing to breast feeding (not sure if that'd be a positive or negative though)

I love that feature too as all you have to do is put 20ml of water in the base of the bottle and put the teat inside the base and the bottle cap on the top of the bottle and microwave for 3mins and it is totally sterile again. it makes visiting family so much easier as there is no need to pack lots of clean bottles. like most anti colic bottles the formula cant be heated in boiling water though which is worth bearing in mind but we got round this by using breast milk storage bottles that we had left over from one of our older children to put it in to heat up before transferring to the MAM bottle when we are out and about.

I went through the same thing with my younger son regarding buying lots of different types of bottles as he had terrible colic and nothing seemed to work so I feel your pain there! These bottles have certainly worked for us so I hope that they would be just as good for everybody else.

Gilly We've got the TT one you can just fit in 5 at a time rather than the normal 6!

Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!
  • DD was breastfed so have no personal experience, however I know a lot of mums raving about how good the MAM anti-colic bottles are.

They're relatively new to the market and one friend's sister got given a free sample at a midwifery conference which she passed onto said friend to try (who had a very grumpy baby). Baby was like a different child by the next day. Other bottlefeeding mums rushed out and bought some of these bottles and all agree that the babies were so much happier than with the Avent / Tommee Tippee ones that they had been using previously.

I think they're also self-sterlising so no need to buy a sterliser and really easy to take on holiday or sterlilise at a friend's house etc.

We went through so many different bottles with DD as she had bad reflux, but after a stay in hospital on the consultant's recommendation we bought Dr Browns bottles, they were brilliant. They really helped with DD's reflux, and they're anti-colic too. I recommend them to everyone!

Steriliser - it depends if you are planning to get a microwave or electric one. We just bought a microwave one from Tesco (own brand) and it did the job absolutely fine. Tesco also do a travel microwave steriliser which take 2 bottles at a time so handy for holidays etc.

Edit: FYI - those Mam self-sterilising bottles have to be put in the microwave for 3 minutes before every use.

  • I use the tommee tippee ones and have had no problems with them. I did also get a couple of the Dr Brown ones, but have never actually used them!
I also have the TT steam steriliser which is brilliant - just don't do what I did amd forget to put water in the bottom before whacking it in the microwave on full power for 8 mins...oops!

For anyone wanting Mam bottles, we got ours from TK Maxx.

They had this set for £25 which i thought was really good.

It came in pink, blue and green too.
