    I bought one last week. It was a Kidde one purchased from Amazon for £14:49 (free delivery)

    Oh dear, that's a very simplistic and alarmist view. Yes, high concentrations of carbon monoxide can kill but low concentrations also cause illness without death.

    Have a read of the NHS page on carbon monoxide poisoning.

    An alarm can only react to instantaneous conditions where it is. Conceivably a patch could be a useful backup to monitor exposure in other locations or over time, in much the same way as radiation dosimeter.
