Cheapest Carbon Monoxide Detector!!!

If you have a gas boiler, there is always the possibility of CARBON MONOXIDE POISINING - it has no smell, no taste, and you can't see it so everyone should get a CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR - just as you would a smoke detector.

For more info see
http://www.carbonmonoxidekills.com/

The cheapest one I have found so far is here...(don't buy it on the carbonmonoxidekills site as it's more expensive)!

If anyone can find a cheaper one, but not a disposable one as these don't last, please post here.

Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Tesco's have one to - I'll need to check but from memory it was around the £20 mark and you wouldn't have to pay postage and could also pick up clubcard points. I'll double check the price tomorrow when in Tescos and post back.

    Regards,

ASDA have them for £20 as well. Last few times I was in Wilko's they had a shelf label for carbon monoxide alarms for £20 with a free smoke detector, but they never seemed to have any stock.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning

If you accept that Carbon Monoxide is dangerous and you need to protect you / family .... it's potentially a bit daft to just look for a detector on the basis of 'cheapest'!

You need one from a reputable manufacturer, with a proven track record and certified to BS standards. This one from Kidde is a combined Smoke / CO2 detector and comes with a 5 year warranty. Beats the one on the link above out of sight as regards practicality (you get both detectors combined) and vfm (the other one is 'throw away' after 5 years - this has a Warranty for that period). And the price on this site is excellent - I paid close to £45 just over a year ago :-

Am I wrong in thinking that your local authority will fit one free of charge..?

You want a Carbon Monoxide Alarm not a Detector.

The alarms are dearer but a lot more effective.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Echo Mikeyorks here!

The boiler is in a cupboard in the kids bedroom in this house. Cost effectiveness is not an issue for me! Paid £30 for an Alarm and smoke dectector built in from B&Q - the same as Mikeyorks posted!

And that one is great. No feeble alarm noises. It yells at you "DANGER DANGER CARBON MONOXIDE PRESENT" or "WARNING FIRE FIRE". And really does wake up the kids!

    They seem a good price

    hope it helps :j
  • Just a word of caution when it comes to protecting yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning. Do not buy carbon monoxide patches as they will not help save your life ! They are a false economy. CO gas sends you to sleep when released so you are unlikely to notice the colour change on your patch.

Always better to get an audible alarm with flashing light.

They are useful at the inquest .................

To be serious - they should be banned. A lot of these things are called "alarms" - dangerously misleading.
