What can we do about this pipe? We're ready to leave now...

So, I posted a couple of months ago about this pipe that's currently occupied in our living room. It's been here for 3mths now.
I emailed my landlord last week after not hearing anything, apparently the council are still waiting for upstair to open up their kitchen to get to the pipe, which could take some time.
Well, I'm not really happy living in this condition anymore, there's now mould growing on the carpet, dirt all around and lots of midgy flies around too.
Here's a pic >>

Any help? Our lease isn't up until December (been here 9mths now) but we want to leave ASAP. Other reasons too, really noisy neighbours and me starting back at uni which means I need a quiet area to study.

Have you done as G_M suggested and contacted Environmental Health?
If your property is still habitable then the usual rule is that you can't break the terms of your tenancy without the LL agreeing an early surrender - which may involve you paying the rent until it is re-let and also the re-letting costs. I'd have thought the chances of it being re-let without the pipe being sorted out are slim to nil.0 -
Not being nosey or owt, but I remember reading about this when you last posted about the contract; https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3435211
Aren't you now nearly at the end of the 6 month contract then, like you said in that thread? Why can't you just leave?0 -
In your last post you said:SO moved in. Signed 6mth contract - it was then a rolling contract.
I move in, added to contract.
A month later, they remove the wall to gain access to the waste pipe.
4mths later, it's still there with no progression due to council taking their time
SO and I want to move now, thinking we were on a rolling month contract, but apparently we have to give 2 mths
So as I said on that thread, you are 5 months into a 6 month contract.
Move out in a month. No notice is needed.0 -
move out on the final day of the 6 months period and no notice is needed. Stay one day over that and one months notice will be required0
