Opinions of HSBC, in particular internet banking

I have used 6 banks in addition to HSBC: I find HSBC's internet banking to be the best in all aspects.
I also find they security and fraud team quite hard working.Hell, they even called me twice and got my credit card replaced as they suspected its details have been compromised - though I never lost it - still I prefer this service than not being informed.
Same here.
In addition, once I got a call from them telling me that keeping too much in the current account may be dangerous should the card/account be compromised.
I also like the fact that if you go abroad you can let them know the country and dates online so that they won't get alarmed when the card suddenly starts being used thousand of miles away.0 -
"the worlds biggest bank" is certainly not the fastest at processing business accounts. On the plus side this could be that they are particular and pay attention to details as opposed to poor performance.
I walked in at 9:30am on Tuesday morning and left with two business bank accounts complete with overdrafts and company credit cards within the hour...Is it meant to be faster than this or did I just get lucky?Bank Accounts - HSBC Advance Current Account, Nationwide Flex Current Account, Lloyds TSB Basic Account
Credit Cards - HSBC (£2000 limit), Vanquis (£1750 limit), Capital One (£800 limit), Barclaycard Initial (£260 limit)0 -
I’ve known HSBC (or “THE BANK” as it’s known in Hong Kong) for over 40+ years.
I had an account with Barclays for 25+ years which I’d paying my mortgage and bills. I’d ALWAYS had paid my bills on time and never had been a penny overdrawn even whilst been unemployed for some 20 months.
Then in 1984 I approached Barclays when I’d received approval from the Govt. on the Enterprise Allowance scheme to start-up a new business. As Barclays had my personal records for 25 years all I wanted was “known person references”. I didn’t even want any overdraft. Barclays didn’t want to know. So I reluctantly I switched my account to Midland Bank (which was taken over by HSBC). I’ve been with Midland/HSBC since 1984. So that makes it some 27 years.
I’ve done online banking with them since they started and though initially their key card was difficult I’ve mastered it within a few hours.
I’ve downloaded (free) through their site both the McAfee (Anti Virus) and Trusteer Rapport (security software) system which ALL banks + financial institutions recommend. I was even ‘advised’ by a branch staff to change my e-mail address on McAfee site in order to get it free every year.
Payment to other banks is extremely fast and reliable as I’ve transferred funds to many using their online services and the funds have been at the recipients within 2 hours.
So from my experience I would RECOMMEND HSBC.0 -
I don't mind their secure key as all of the banks are currently implementing a similar system and if they haven't already they will.
Lloyds TSB have not done so so far, and their new chip and pin cards cannot be read in these card readers so unless they plan to replace all the debit cards they have issued in the first place, I doubt they will introduce such a system.0 -

HSBC's Secure key is not a card reader. So no reason why Lloyds TSB won't go that route also.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, sounds like a pretty positive response.
I'm not too bothered about having to use the secure key since my current bank uses a card reader, but can I ask if you use the secure key just to log in or if its used to authorise payments and the like as well? I guess it doesn't really matter, I'm just curious.2023 Mortgage-Free Wannabe #19: £11,675.68/£13,000

Why not read more about Secure Key from the HSBC website ?

You can even use the demo to check out how it "feels"This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I prefer First Direct to HSBC if I am honest. Much easier to use and much better service if you ever have to call them.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

the card reader is a pain in the deiree, but in 5 years I can't find many faults. I've had (which sounds douplicated) my credit card cloned apparently so ended up with a new card (but they sent 2 out) while abroad they have declined my debit and credit card on me a few times, even though i have notified them of going abroad. I like that you can e-mail them and generally someone will call you back within 48 hours generally i've found. I've not had too many calls on them trying to sell things to me (unlike Halifax at the moment). People in branch are helpful. Apart from the card reader which is now broke i'd highly recommend them, only not for savings accounts as most of their rates can be beaten:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one
