So sorry haven’t been able to update until now, have not had internet access during my week off! Although the funds transferred on time, the keys did not appear until the next day and I finally got them on the Saturday morning after ‘completing’ on the Friday! :-0
Friday – phoned solicitor in morning to check what was happening, i.e. time of funds transfer and when he expected to complete. He transferred funds at 9 a.m. so hoped that would reach account by midday. Phoned EA in meantime to see if they had received keys, nothing as yet, they would wait until 10-11 then chase the vendor up.
10.30 a.m. – solicitor phoned to say funds had transferred and he was about to inform EA to release keys. I also rang EA to say I was leaving work and would be there in 30 minutes to which they informed me that the vendor had started to move the greenhouse, the settee and his bed (!) and could he have a bit longer to clear everything. Although frustrated I agreed because initially I had said he could leave it there and pick it up after his holiday so to get it out before I moved in worked out better for me. I asked how long he needed, the EA said only around an hour or so.
3 p.m. - phoned EA - hadn’t any update from vendor, when they phoned him he said although he’d got the rest of the stuff out, he’d lost track of time and had to pick his son up from nursery so to avoid being late for him, he’d dropped the keys through my cousin’s (who lives 2 doors away) letterbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Despite the fact they had nothing to do with the chain or any involvement so he shouldn’t have dropped keys there anyway, my cousin works 12 hour shifts from 2 until 2 (a.m.) and cousin’s husband was away for the weekend! So no way to access their house whatsoever!
Completely stunned by this, I really didn’t have a clue what to do. Phoned solicitor who advised I could get a locksmith and charge it to vendor but that I shouldn’t expect to be reimbursed anytime soon so I could either opt for this or wait to get keys Saturday morning. Phoned a few locksmiths who quoted £120 cheapest! :-0
Eventually I opted to wait until Saturday seeing as keys were available although out of reach for the time being! My poor cousin drove to my parents after getting home from her shift and posted the keys through the door. Finally got in there on the Saturday to find he’d still left a load of rubbish there, rugs, picture frames, junk in the garden, resulting in plenty of trips to the rubbish tip!
So after a full week of clearing up and painting the house is starting to take shape and am now relaxing in my lovely new home!:j
Nightmare day but at least you now are starting to enjoy your new home!0
