Vodafone iPhone 4 Unlock
Hi
Just wondering if the vodafone web team or anyone can help me with this one.
Tomorrow I'm going to purchase an iPhone 4 from one of those Cash Generator style shops. However I'm on o2 and it's locked to vodafone. With the phone coming from someone I don't know, I have no idea if it was originally a contract or PAYG handset.
I've tried contacting vodafone e-forum and also by phone to get the situation on being able to unlock the handset.
PAYG said to get a sim card and put £19.99 on it and then request an unlocking code and contract helpdesk said it's not possible at all.
Would anyone know the correct answer or what to do?
Thanks

I'm not 100% sure but I'd be wary of advice which refers to providing you an unlock code as getting Iphones properly unlocked involves syncing your phone via itunes after the relevant network has updated the Apple database to indicate the lock can be removed.
Your other option will be to pay someone to unlock the phone for you but this (I believe) may cause problems if you then allow Itunes to upgrade the phone's firmware after having the phone unlocked.0 -
Hi lufcgirl,
This is a question that often comes up.
The iPhone would need to be unlocked by the original owner, therefore you would need to purchase it as an unlocked device. PaulLuke is absolutely correct, once it has been unlocked it needs to be synced with iTunes to activate it correctly.
If you need any further help, feel free to post back under this thread or you can email me via the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.
Best wishes,
