Diesels are generally more cost effective on the motorways, and when used for very short trips are more likely to rack up expensive faults such as the DPF or DMF failing (typically over a grand to fix).
Little tiny petrol cars are better suited to shorter city trips.
Yours is exceptionally short so any car is at risk, but the Seat is more likely to develop faults from it and they will be more expensive to fix.
I'd be more concerned about this than the differences in fuel consumptions.
It's probably also worth noting that a half knackered Aygo will be easier to sell on as the potential buyers are likely to be young, inexperienced and not know what problems to look for. The kind of person who buys a 7 seater diesel is more likely to be middle aged, experienced and aware of the possible problems.0 -
2 miles to work, if you want to save money get rid of one of the cars, buy a push bike (traditional or electric) and take a taxi when it rains.0

I agree with the above. If you're serious about saving money, an electric bike would be the way to go.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Actually I think it's a bit further than 2 miles but as a primary school teacher with boxes, bags etc. and leaving the house at 7.15am returning at 5pm at both times it is often dark. I work in a rough part of town too. Running the car is the only option, just a matter of which one. Also use the car for shopping and other girly pastimes like picking up the kisd from after school club, friends' houses, ballet etc.
Not sure what to do yet. Hubby really not worried about Aygo driving, I would prefer the Aygo though as hopeless at parking the 7 seater ...

Short journeys really don't help diesels. As said earlier, the DPF and EGR block-up really quickly. There is a way around this, you can buy and fit both an EGR blanking kit and a DPF bypass pipe (Neither DPF's or EGR's are a legal requirement in the UK), this would boost the Seat's performance and add 5-10 mpg to the fuel efficiency, but the injectors and other bits would still get clogged and require a good thrashing down the motorway once a month to clean-out.Never Knowingly Understood.
