Bathroom Redecorating: Can you Tile Over Tiles?

And the new tiles laid over the old ones will protrude over the skirting board. Sorry, it's an abominable bodge IMO.
To qualify what I have said previously, my shower cubicle had only just been tiled by the previous owner of the house when we moved in. We put up with it for a couple of years but when the shower tray split I replaced it with a cast acylic on and removed the electric shower.
The existing tiles were a perfect base for tiling over. It is completely tiled from tray to ceiling on all three walls and above the door, there is no way that you would know it's been done this way.
As for the kitchen, it had been tiled above the worktop adjacent to the sink and part way around the window. They were only thin tiles and by using a plastic quadrant edging bead around the perimeter on the wall and all the way around the return of the window there is no way you would know I've tiled on tile.
If a wall in a bathroom was completely tiled and as long as it didn't have a door in it, I would consider tiling on tile. If there was a skirting board I would remove it and tile to the floor. I would also tile the floor. If it was a boarded floor I would replace it with suitable flooring grade chipboard and lay No More Ply on which to tile, as I've done in my own bathroom.
Every job is different, it's horse-for-courses.
No, I'm not a tiler by trade, but I do consider myself to be a competent DIYer with high standards, make of that what you will.
