Boots store closes due to no pharmacist

OK Here Goes......
A registered pharmacy cannot legally operate without a 'Responsible Pharmacist' on duty. A Pharmacist has to arrive, sign into a responsible pharmacist log book and display a certificate. Without this happening nothing can be sold not even something like a bottle of shampoo.
During a day the responsible pharmacist can be absent from the premises for a total of 2 hours during which time certain things cannot be sold (pharmacy medicines from behind the counter) and prescriptions cannot be handed out. However the pharmacy can remain open and sell other items and take in prescriptions to be filled once the pharmacist has returned.
Do people really think Boots would lose out on money by shutting pharmacies for no reason?
I think it is only fair that if you are not in the trade that you do your research properly for the facts before bad mouthing companies.
It is no excuse that the staff that day were ignoring you. They should have been at the doors explaining the situation properly.
Rebecca, Pharmacist
Thanks for setting the record straight, but I think Boots (and others) should display these regulations (or a pr!cis of them) when they do apparently inconsistent things such as running the shop at lunchtime with no pharmacist but not first thing. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I wonder how many of you would take the same flippant attitude if your local Asda shut down because there was no Pharmacist? after all, Boots works the same way doesnt it? there is a retail section and there is a Pharmacy.
my own tale of woe is that I ordered an expensive make-up set for my daughters Xmas present and when I went to collect it - it wasnt the one I had ordered! completely different code - I asked if the one I wanted was available, the assistant checked and said she could order one. That was ok, it was still a month before xmas, so she ordered it for me and assured me it would be in in five days. Five days later - she hands me the same darn set I had (wrongly) recieved before! I asked to speak to the manager and she phoned someone, and found out that the set I wanted was actually out of stock and they were sending these instead! Bad customer service that! I wouldnt have minded if they had been offered as an alternative when ordering the item (though I would have refused) but I had been to that store three times and still didnt get the item - a refund but no apology either!
I dont bother with Boots now!0 -

asda isn't registered as a pharmacist retailer, it's a retailer with a pharmacy department, completely different circumstanceshelpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
One of our local Boots was closed when the pharmacist called in ill and the locum was late. However, I do know they called to get a locum ASAP, which is what yours should have done.0
