Need some advice sorting out phone and broadband for Mum

Long story short.

I've had a Virgin phone line at my place for a few years. I'm sure it was originally a BT line, that Virgin have taken over.

My Mum is about to move into the property and wants to take over the phone line and get the cheapest possible broadband too.

She will mostly be using the net for general surfing, no downloading or anything. And making occasional phone calls (a few being to my mobile number) For the next few months she'll only be there at weekends.
She also wants to "keep" the number i have with Virgin as it's a "nice" number.

What options do i\we have for Mum to take over the phone service, and what would be the cheapest internet for her to take out.

I was thinking of recommending Plusnet to her due to them having a UK call centre and their advertised rates seem pretty good.
Was a 40 a day smoker for 20 years.
Decided to give up, and haven't had a fag for 12 years.
Halfway through losing six stone.

Looking forward to early retirement.

First things first. Is this a VM cable line, or a Virgin National BT-based line?
A cable service cannot have taken over from an old BT line, they are 2 entirely separate networks.
If it's a cable line, then VM are the only providers-no others exist.
If is Virgin National, then you have your pick of ADSL providers-I suggest you start with an exchange search on https://www.samknows.com to see what LLU providers are available on your exchange.
The cheap Plusnet rates are only available on Market 3 exchanges-samknows will confirm which yours is.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
