Soap Flakes

Hello Lovelies,

Been reverting to type and lurking more than posting again recently, but was wondering if anyone could help with a quick question please??

Where do you buy your soap flakes for homemade laundry powder??

We've got all of the supermarkets plus h*me B*rgains, etc etc, but so far I can only find liquid soap flakes in Mr T's. Nothing in Wilk*nsons, nothing in Mr M's. Will check the others as I get chance, but wondered where you all get yours??

Thanks

Lumpy x

Its hardly expensive though is it, why not just buy an own brand washing powder rather than all the messing about to save a few pence ?

I make my own washing powder as it's less chemicals and is brilliant on my skin, whereas supermarket washing powder makes my skin itch. Also it is far cheaper to make than buy as you only need such a small amount of powder each time you wash.

I buy my soap flakes from Wilkinsons (large store), so maybe they had just ran out when you were looking for it. I'd go back and ask.

Well I have never heard of that making your own washing powder , something else I have learnt today then !
  • If I was making my own laundry detergent I wouldn't be buying any soap-flakes from the shops. I'd be grating a bar of soap. My own preference is Fairy household soap which I use to make my own "gloop". It's fantastic stuff and I can make about ten litres of it for £1.50 or so. At 100ml per full load and 50ml for a half load that's a year's supply to me

I love Laundry gloop...have even converted my mum who only ever uses expensive brand makes

I use 4 litres of water...grate in 1 bar of soap..(I use simple or sensitive due to sons severe excema)...but used Imperial leather for mums..

Simmer till soap has dissolved...Add 8oz of Soda Crystals...stir...then leave till cool...Add a few drops of essential oil if you like

When cool transfer to a lidded container...one batch lasts me about 2 weeks but there are 8 of us so about 4/5 loads a day

    Hope that helps xx

    Thank you all!!

Kippers - I'll do that, thank you.

Crazyguy - that's the joy of OS, you learn something new everyday!! :D

B&T - I have tried to grate my own before, but found it almost impossible to grate!! Don't know if it was just the soap I tried (olive oil based i think), or if I'm a massive wuss!!!

Dandy-Candy - I'm about to try the one from here which I think was recommended a couple of weeks back.
