I have two friends who met thru gingerbread and are now a delightful family of 6 together.

Sadly they moved away and I lost touch,

    You know who you are:)
Sorry!!!! I'm a mere man so useless at keeping in touch!

Yes, we met through the virtual gingerbread e-mail lists which are really useful for those who don't have a local group. A lot of members on there have made many friends and they have regular meets.

VG3 & VG4 seem to be the busiest lists.

I started up and ran my local Gingerbread group for about 4 years. We used to run a meeting every friday morning where I used to go through a bit of an agenda but it was really informal. We used to have free or subsidised days out in the school holidays, a night out once a month and coffee mornings round each others houses. The most we ever got in the group was about 25 but I know some groups have over 200 and a waiting list. We never had a cheap holiday and we were always wary of anyone who came to the meetings asking about free or cheap holidays as when we said there wasn't any lined up we would never see them again. Then lo and behold the next day you'd see them up the town with their partners.

One thing I would warn you about was that gossip was really rife and the group split into two halfs at one point and one half was not talking to the other. I had a terrible time trying to sort it out.

I left in the end because they were taking me for granted and expecting me to organise everything while they just reap the benefits. When I asked for help all the excuses in the book came out.

When my sister's first marriage ended she joined Gingerbread and I think it really helped her at a very low point in her life. She became very involved and was the secretary of the group until she left.

    Good luck for Friday Astonsmummy!
