  • Hi everyone

I have been reading the advice so far.
We have been quoted on a Eggersman kitchen and now a Hacker. The price on the Hacker with all top end Neff appliances is a good £6k less than the Eggersman quote.
Is there much quality difference between the two??
Were midway through a new build and the time to order the kitchen is now upon us!
    Can anyone help?

Is it Hacker Classic, systemat or emotion. If its classic, there is no comparison, Eggersman is better. Classic is a very basic kitchen. If its systemat or emotion, I would expect pricing difference to be lesser. Eggersman will give you more exotic touches.

    Hi

If you just compare the cabinetry costs and ignore the appliance, worktop and fitting costs what is the difference? The appliance, worktop and fitting costs would be or should be all the same if comparing like for like models / products / specification from different kitchen suppliers.

In general terms there are substantial differences between Hacker and Eggersmann, I often say its like the difference between a Ford and a Mercedes. Nothing wrong with a Ford but there are just lots of areas where a Mercedes is better but you are paying for it!

What style of Eggersmann kitchen is it (handless or with handles)? Do you know the name if the Eggersmann Door you have chosen?

We specialise in Eggersmann kitchens and I would be able to give you a bit more of an insight with this information. In fact we have worked with Eggersmann for over 10 years now and in my opinion there is not a better make of kitchen money can buy! But if you ask 10 kitchen designers - What is the best make of kitchen? then you will get 10 different answers!

I hope I can help you a bit.

  • Wanted to let you all know we have finally made our decision to go with local kitchen designer and a builder that they have regurlarly worked with! Been to see two previous jobs and spoken to clients at length so hopefully all will go well. Job hopefully starting January so will probably be back then for more advice, will try a new thread though, say, "new kitchen joy" in the hope that that is a true statement (although if looking for advice may not be true!)

I am looking for advice regarding tall fridges and integrated dishwashers (not happy with their choices from feedback via previous clients) Any advice out there or where to go in this site?

Thanks again for all advice including PMs, very helpful!

Depending on your budget if you are willing to invest into good appliances, buy Miele/Liebherr refrigeeration/dishwashers. If not, Neff/Bosch/Siemens make a lot of well made mid-priced stuff.

  • I was surprised to see comments suggesting that German kitchens are better than UK kitchens. UK flatpacks are probably not as good as German kitchens but kitchens like Mereway are UK Built and have the same fittings and features as most German kitchens. The cabinets themselves are better quality than any German kitchens I know of and we are a retailer selling both Pronorm and Mereway. I agree with the comments about Nobilia however Hacker, RWK, Bauformat and Pronorm are all very similar.

Holengarth - My experience of Mereway comes from my competitors (atleast 2 of them) selling Mereway. In the last 2 months alone we have replaced 3 Mereway kitchens, all less than 10 years old. They looked like they'd been in 20 years and hadn't worn well at all. Seeing the state of the houses that the kitchens had been in, I wouldn't necessarily put it down to misuse as all 3 houses looked cared for.

Maybe these were exceptions. I have looked into Mereway (as lately as January 2012) as a product to add to my offering and I have to admit that its perhaps one of the better British made kitchens. However, when I factor in the pricing, I know I can buy in German kitchens that I believe are built to a higher standard with more flexibility for similar or less money. To me that's the proverbial 'no-brainer'.

Unless things have changed drastically in the last 9 months, I still stick to my statement that a number of German kitchens offer the best quality-price package out there.

REALLY??? I thought Mereway were still using standard grade chipboard? Or MS grade at most?

I hope I'm not being overly cynical but this:

doesn't really stack up with this:

Its the sort of thing I would never have considered doing as its a lot of money but I found a Pronorm kitchen locally and cant afford it. I did what we all do these days and found Arena Kitchens who sell Pronorm on line.
The quote is too much less to be honest or is it. ?? Kitchen units locally £11500 on line £6500. I used the local design and got a quote which seems to cover it all. The drawbacks are I need to pay it all 2 weeks before I get it and the delivery is direct from Germany.
I need to save the money but want someone to tell me that they have done it and all was well. I am only saving money if I get what I ordered. ??
    in just a few months.

    Cheers
