I have just received two questionnaires from Halifax to complete, one for PPI on personal loans and one for PPI on our Halifax Mortgage. As we had a TMP Policy will the claim assess only the PPI element of the TMP or all elements? If only the PPI, do I need to request in the questionnaire that they assess all elements of the TMP Policy?
    Thank you for any advice.
  • They will investigate whatever it is you're complaining about.

    Don't tell you're making a claim, as you're not.

If you have complained about PPI, they will only assess the PPI element of your policy.

Yes, if you want to complain about the other elements you need to make that clear.
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Since even the PPI element is usually deemed to be sold properly, it would be very rare to find a valid complaint about critical illness or life insurance. What would be your complaint about the non-PPI segments?
  • I had policies in place that already covered the critical illness and life insurance elements and therefore didn’t need these.

So why did you take out this policy rather than a standalone MPPI product or none at all? If you had this cover you could simply have refused it.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Not told it was optional. Implied we had to take it out to get the Mortgage.

It wasn't required that you were told it was optional, it would only be mis-sold if you were explicitly told it was compulsory when it actually wasn't. Regardless, you won't be able to evidence this.

Did you provide documentary evidence of the alternative cover you apparently already had? If not, expect to be asked to provide same..

Bluntly put, I think your complaint is going to fail unless the Bank find something else wrong with the sale as part of their investigation.

The typical financial need for life assurance is around 10-20 times your income plus the amount of any debts. So, when you say you had enough, was it more than that? It would make you a rare person if you did.
