"There are 2 drives, both full." ???? - are you talking tens of GB's or TB's ?
As posted just do it via network.0 -

If the PC is really old, it would depend if the motherboard supports USB2.
If it does, then a PCI USB card will just plug in and give you another 3 or 4 USB ports. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
How many drives are fitted in the new computer? If less than the maximum number that can be connected to the motherboard, you have spare drive space in the new computer.
You can take the old drives out of the old computer, and install them in the spare drive bays of the new one. Then just copy/paste files from one to the other
OR
Just install the drives in the new computer and leave them there.
If the old drives are IDE, new computer uses SATA, you may need adaptors. Maplin or other computer supplier.0 -
"I want to get all my stored data from this computer to an external drive and put it on a new computer"
You don't, really - you just want to
"get all my stored data from this computer to a new computer"
The external drive is one way of doing this, but the easiest is just to move the drives to the internal drive space of the new computer. Assuming you have free drive spaces.0 -
Install filezilla server on the XP box and the client on the new box , better than network sharing on XP/7 http://filezilla-project.org/4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . why don't we go for the straightforward solution.....
1)open old PC, take out drives
2)open new PC, permanently install drives in new PC for extra space.
If there isn;t room for both install 1, copy the data over via the internal BUS (MUCH faster than USB).... then swap and repeat0 -
