I don't think the OP is bothered about morality.0

someone lent you money in goodfaith, why do you feel the need to cheat thes person or company?
You have a moral responsibility to pay your debts!
Nobody loaned me any money....if they had I wouldn't be in the mess I am in.
The whole driver behind me taking the US role is to stick two fingers up to the bank who has kept me poor for 10 years.
If I find out a credit check would keep me from getting a Visa I will torch the bloody bank, it really would be the last straw.0 -
Do you own a property in the UK?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Hi,
I think you will find that you will not be able to get a visa for the US unless you have a certain amount of cash available to you and pass a credit check. You should look up the visa qualifications before you do anything else. You may also find that although a company is willing to give you a job that doesn't nessesarily mean that you will be given a visa as the US has quotas for the number of people comming in from different countries and if they feel that the job could be done by one of their own citicens they may refuse you anyway.
Appart from that I understand that you feel you don't deserve the debt you have but at the end of the day you must have done something to have it wheather that was taking out a loan, paying bills late or just making a bad choice. If you don't pay your debts they don't just dissapear. The cost of them gets pushed onto the banks other customers. Why should other people suffer for your debts. Please conssider that the responsible thing to do would be to pay them off.0 -
You will be credit checked. I worked for an Immigration company. Think the only Visa you would get without being checked is an ESTA, which is a tourist visa. AS you are working, you aren't eligible for this.:oGetting married 23rd June 2012!!:o0

If no one lent you money - how are you in debt then?
You must owe someone money if you are in debt?
A bank cannot keep you poor - you have a significant degree of personal freedom (to change banks, to live within your means, to earn more etc) and with that personal responsibilty to pay your debts!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Not sure what the legalities are but my husband and I left the UK over 2 years ago with quite a large amount of debt and it never occurred to me not to pay it back because I would have been worried about what would happen if I needed to return to the UK or whether it could affect our house which we have there (mortgaged). As far as I am concerned we spent the money and therefore we must pay it back, I would not want to affect any other people by our debt by leaving anyone (even the banks) out of pocket. However we are lucky that we have been able to make the payments, it is a different story if you are unable to and in this situation I would not be sure what to advise as I don't know what the international law is.
Whatever you decide I hope it all works out - I do believe you should make every effort to pay your debts back but it is a personal decision.
But I don't understand how nobody has lent you any money yet you have £15k of debt?0 -

Living in the USA without the ability to obtain a credit card can make life difficult.0
