Alicante Flights - what is a good price??

Hi everyone

We are thinking about our holiday in summer 2012 (i know its a long time in advance!) and wondering what is the lowest price flights tend to be available for during the school summer holiday? Is anyone a regular traveller to Alicante or Murcia at that time of year and able to give me some advice about what is the lowest price I could achieve? I can be flexible on dates and dutaions within that 6 week window.

If I am able to get return flights for less than £100 each I will wait until nearer the time and book our holiday for then, if thats not achieveable I will book during the Spring Bank school holiday in June next year as we can get flights for £100 return with Easyjet.

Hoping some regular fliers may be able to advise? Thanks

My guess is the cheaper ones in the 6 week summer holiday may be at the less popular flight times ie arriving at ALC at say 10.30pm and leaving ALC at say 9.30am.

Paid £200 all in ( bags ect) each to fly with Monarch this August. booked it last August( 2010). I checked the price a few times before departure and it stayed the same till about the week before , when surprise surprise it went up dramatically cause the plane was nearly full .

Monarch no longer charge to pay using your debit card. pretty good service all in all as well . will use them next time we fly to Alicante .

Thanks for the replies, £200 each is a bit out of my budget, so I think I will be going in June and getting the cheapo flights :-)

we've flown with ryanair to alicante and/or valencia the last few augusts with ryanair and never paid anywhere near £100 each - usually about £65 to £75 each including priority boarding. However, we only take hand luggage (this time we were away for 16 days and still managed fine) and I have a couple of cards i use so don't pay booking fees. these are for good flight times from Liverpool, East Midlands or leeds whichever are cheaper/better times. last year i booked towards the end of June for the August and this year i booked towards the end of may for the august. I look virtually every day when I'm looking to book flights and it's amazing how they can differ - even within the same day sometimes but if i see something about the prices above i booked it.

Ryanair are cheapest I tend to find, how many are flying and where from?

If you get a prepaid Mastercard you can avoid their £5 per person per flight "administration charge".

I've just booked for 7 of us to go from Glasgow to Alicante for the October Half Term, £600 or so all in, including the ~£80 admin charges as my prepaid Mastercard hasn't arrived yet.

It was much cheaper to fly from Glasgow than anywhere else in the North of England for some reason, so it is worth checking a few different airports if you have a choice.

Easyjet and Jet2 can also offer good deals and worth checking, I would advise booking early if you can.

Thanks for the tips. We live in East Anglia and tend to fly from London Gatwick or Stansted, 2 adults and two kids flying so 'nice' flight times are best for mum and dad's sanity!

sorry for late reply rebecca - that was return. however please don't rely on this as I'd feel bad if something went wrong. Our philosophy is we will get a holiday somewhere abroad in August - our preference is to fly to alicante or valencia and we've never paid a lot but if we came unstuck we'd just go somewhere else as we don't have to book time off work far in advance
