I am sure that with practice you will get the hang of an electric grill, it's just a case of learning to understand how hot each setting is. I do know what you mean though- I am definitely the same way with electric hobs, they drive me mad because I don't feel I have full control of them because of the delays heating up/cooling down. Whereas I do a lot of baking and prefere having an electric oven for that because it is so precise and I like my fan oven for even cooking.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I don't know anyone that would be put off by a gas oven either, I'd be put off by an electric for the same reasons as above. Far easier to time things with gas, instant heat instead of waiting for it to warm up (I've used both)

im not going doolally then, its the first ive ever heard anyone say that electric is preferable!!!

yes, i agree the main fan oven is surprisingly accurate and maybe doesnt dry stuff out as much as gas, but i long for my old fashioned gas grill

thank god for gas hobs, electric would have been ripped out asap, i couldnt have worked with them

I prefer electric, gas oven dries food out, and there's always the smell.

If you want to have more of a feel for how the electric grill will operate, how about varying the height of the grill rack instead of or as well as turning the grill up and down? This at least has the benefit of being instant and visible.
