Harrods Christmas Grotto heads up

We've always gone to Selfridges for the grotto

The kids love the train ride and the santas seem to be more real.0 -
Last year was the first time we did grotto visits as our daughter was 3. We went to selfridges on a weds afternoon and it was amazing?, only cost about £5 or so and my daughter is convinced she met Father Christmas. Husband and I were very impressed! She will be going again this year too.
We tied it in with a visit to the winter wonderland in Hyde Park. That was fab, expensive but worth it. We just bought £10 worth of tickets and she had about five good rides.
I've never been to the Harrodsburg grotto but we saw it that day and I wasn't impressed at all.0 -
I went in about 2005/6 I think, and it was really good, but we had NO queue, fab entertainment, and DD was convinced she met the big FC

I have heard great things about the Selfrisges one..... can anyone tell me more? Booking etc?0 -
Have just ordered my tickets

No stress like the last couple of years, order went through straight away!0 -
I have been tryiong to get tickets for a few years and managed to do so last year. I had told my kids how wonderful and magical it would be and we took the train to London for the day. What a disappointment - my 7 year old son asked 'is this supposed to be the magical bit'? and I answered 'no that is probably when we go through the next door'...only to find that that was the door to Santa (who spent about 2 minutes with the kids)!!! WHen we came out I was told that the Santa we had just seen wasn't the real one as the kids could see the stuff that was holding his beard in place! We then queued for a while to buy an overpriced photo momento - never again!!! Our local garden centre has a better, more magical grotto with a more realistic Santa. Seriously, don't waste your time0

Does anyone have the link to book the tickets yet please?!?!!??0

I have done both Harrods and Selfridges. Not been to H for the lasy 2 years due to the ticket fiasco. Selfridges was in my opinion diabolical - we went because so many on here said how great it was. The train ride was twice round a room - very poor - not the magic people said it was, FC was about 23, skinny and much too modern in the way he spoke to the kids, I was worried my then 6 year old would twig. A friend went to H last year, and said that FC was not as convincing as he used to be, so I have the dilema of what to do this year - as we always loved it there because of how realistic FC was, is it a case of now Al Fayed has gone that standards have slipped?0

Been to Harrods for 2 years - last year went 23rd Dec, disappointed they'd taken down most of the decs in prep for their sale.
I got email on Fri to book for this year and have done so for 3 Dec hoping that the decs and atmosphere would be better.
Lots of spaces already booked or limited. !0 in my party and had to try 3 times for a slot big enough!
I spent £100+ online recently sending some souvenirs etc to Aussie (pens were 3 for 2 etc) and incidently, they deducted the VAT as sent outside EU which almost covered the £25 postage! Goods arrived within 2 weeks - would have cost me more than that to post airmail, plus the aggro pf packing and queueing up at post office!
When can you book the Selfridges one?? Might look into that for next year!0 -
