trying to get rid of talktalk- delaying tactics

Hi all hoping someone can help me.

I have been trying in vain to help my father-in-law cancel with talktalk, he has home phone and broadband with them, we phoned up 5 weeks ago, they told him he was in contract and had to buy himself out, which he agreed to, they still havent taken any money for this and the line remains active. they said originally it would take up to 15 working days, so we waited that time, still nothing, so they said the order was in and 10 working days maximum from then, line still going.

As we see it our options are cancel the direct debit, or go to the regulator, which unless talktalk's indian call centre agrees deadlock (erm......ok) then we have to wait another 3 weeks, and then however long the regulator takes to investigate/tell us if they can or not

anyone got any better info?

Are you transferring the broadband service to another provider?-in which case you need to ask for a MAC.
Cancelling the broadband without using a MAC will result in a £25 cease charge from your ISP.
If you cancel both broadband and line rental, the line will be disconnected and you will have to pay another provider (up to £130 in the case of BT) to reconnect.
You need to clarify what you are actually trying to do here.

    Hi split second,

if your father in law is on LLU then he can't get a MAC but he can ask his new provider to take over the line if the new provider can do that. If he is just ceasing the line then call cancellations and ensure that they are aware that he wishes to cease. You must make sure we know you are ceasing, if you simply stop paying that will lead to charges and debt collection agencies and none of us want you to go through that process.

Are you saying that he wants to cancel the broadband and have the line disconnected?-this still isn't clear.

I can't see the point of buying out a contract if you're not moving to another provider?
He's going to pay for the service until the end of the minimum term anyway, or at least as much as the ETC requires, so might as well be able to use it.
The required notice period is I think 30 days if you are still in contract.

    Hi split second,

as there is no way for me to obtain the necessary information, there is nothing I can do to help you on here. There is a TalkTalk forum for customers where we can get the information needed and hopefully resolve the issue for you.

The account number will be on any of his TT correspondence, his bills or in his online account.

I know, but due to my father in law being on holiday I cant go looking through his flat looking for it, his online account has been inaccessable since April, thats what started this whole sorry mess in the first place

Talktalk had 5 weeks to cancel the account and months before to deal with the online billing and didnt, I was hoping to get some advice to give him a way of finally sorting it out when he comes home

my father in law can arrange whatever service he wants to at a later stage as and when he decides to, but after months of hassle he just wants to cancel, its talktalk that are causing the problems.
