Never been brave enough to DIY after a nasty experience with Glints back in the 1980s!!

You should only need to do it once or at most a couple of times just to blend the undyed hair with the dyed hair.

Hair mascara is pretty cheap (I buy it from Ebay, but you can get them from several places - and the ones I buy are made by L'Oreal). I've just had a quick look on Ebay, and L'Oreal black ones are going for 99p with £1 postage), so it may be worth a bit of experimenting.

Also, do they dry "crispy" like normal mascara (which I have been known to use on my parting in an emergency and actually covers ok except for the crispiness!)

I can't see any L'Oreal black ones on there at the moment, but there usually all colours there. Avon apparently do one as well (?)

I forgot to answer your other question: the ones I use don't dry 'crispy' - but I can only confirm that of the ones I've used (the gold/blonde ones).
