  • After using this company carngerrish.co.uk i'd never use an SEO company again. I dealt with Mike who was a nightmare to work with.
  • Hi all

I was hoping for some advice on website ranking if anyone knows the answer or where i can look for some good info.

I've just had my website made live last week, Unfortunately i have only turned up on page 4 of Google which is not too good.

Now i thought i was being clever by calling the company name the same thing that most people would actually type into Google should they be searching for our service, but as i mentioned we are on page 4, maybe its early days and we will move or maybe i got it completely wrong with he whole naming thing

Does anyone one know how to get further up the rankings without paying someone to re-write or paying to have the site looked at.

And does anyone know if the website address is the same name as the company instead of abbreviating like I've done to make it quicker to type as know one likes typing in long web addresses. would this make more sense, and come up better in the ranks?

I hope i have made sense and any help is appreciated, as I'm trying to be as money saving as possible and not spend any more cash

The starting point is to make sure your pages are well written and 100% relevant to the services and/or products you're trying to sell. Try looking at your site through a visitor's eyes and try to be objective. For ranking purposes, content and function are more important than how your site looks. My own web host provides tools that allow you to see stats about your pages, such which are visited most, which are visited and then exited without further action, how many people arrive at the home page and go no further, which google search terms brought them to your site in the first place etc etc. Maybe your own host can offer this? Also you should search for 'google webmaster tools', this will take you to google's own advice for getting a better ranking.
  • It's worth a look at the whole Google Analytics suite.

I'd also recommend reading up on 'paid search' i.e. AdWords.

You can pick up a lot of useful tips from paid search, that may help you improve your natural search ranking. Have a look for 'AdWords Quality Score'.

Just to be clear though, Google paid search and natural search are separate entities and do not influence each other.

SEO is pure snakeoil and there is nothing they do that you cannot do yourself with a bit of research - "SEO Consultant" is generally a codeword for "unemployed".
  • In order to rank your website in top search results of any search engine it is necessary to implement effective SEO strategies. It is essential to generate the traffic to the website in order to make profit.

Using Google, search for "google seo guide" (yes, include "google" in the search itself). That should give you a link titled "Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide" which is a PDF. Print it out and read it again and again and again until it's sunk in 100% - Google's done a great job of covering all the basics.
  • Register your URL at dmoz.org

All the major search engines index from DMOZ and will pick up your site a lot quicker.
Also make sure that you have your meta tags done.
