How very churlish,why bother putting appliances through QA before they leave the factory lets just send them out untested the general populus of the UK isnt concerned about what could happen.Im not asking to be compensated for what might have happened..the glass shattered on a product that was 3 weeks old and stood as a useless kitchen ornament for 2 weeks.That cost my family unexpected outgoings on take away food..
As for the car scenario if it were 3 weeks old and whilst parked in the garage the windscreen shattered would you be a bit miffed or just go oh well you know what **** happens0 -
If it was under 28 days old when the glass shattered i would insist on an exchange not a repair. Ring comet quote your job number and ask them to exchange it. As far as i can see, they should have offrered you this in the first place IF the product was under 28 days old.0

They refused to exchange until the engineer had viewed and reported why the fault had occured..but during that time they had ordered the replacement glass and the engineer simply came and fitted it.No other checks were made on the appliance
Comets view is that im unlucky to have purchased the 1 in however many appliances that have this problem.
Im in Construction Supply where H&S is a hot subject,failiure to advise of potential hazard can leave our company liable for costs arising.Any known occurence of product failiure has to be documented and a revised CDM data sheet produced.If i were to sell a Roof Window and 3 weeks after installation it shattered then ALL costs would be passed onto the complete supply chain back to the manufacturer in Finland.0 -
One would expect Comet to ensure that this is not an inherent fault with the item in which case a recall may be necessary.
If I was OP, I would want a refund and to go elsewhere.0 -
Talk about over-reacting...
Glass in ovens (and in most other applications) can shatter. It's one of the common features of toughened safety glass. The tempering process changes the molecular structure of the glass, meaning it can shatter due to a number of reasons, such as a sudden change in temperature, stress, impact etc etc etc etc etc
The other thing that tempering does, when changing the molecular structure, is to allow the glass to shatter into thousands of rough pieces, which (unless eaten) aren't really going to much damage to anything (even the kids).If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
