Recovery of MS Word file

Hey Hey :D

A friend of mine was typing out a letter (apparently a long letter) on MS Word when what I think happened is he must have hit CTRL + A and deleted it. He then managed to close the word file and thus lose the chance to click undo. He also saved it which eliminated any possibility of getting it back.

I was wondering if there is a way to roll back a file to the way it was previously? I've looked in the folder where the file is and even after I enabled the "show hidden files" option, I saw no backup copy as I would on mine.

Is there any hope for this or does he have to start the file all over again?

Comments

  • Unless Word has been set up to automatically save a backup copy each time you save a document, the letter has been lost. See if Tools - Options - Save - Always create backup copy is ticked. Backups are saved in .wbk files.
