I would not touch a digital camera under £300. You may as well go and buy a 35mm SLR from fleabay for a fiver and learn how to take photos properly.
I bought a Nikon S8100 for £150 and am quite pleased with the results. If you're into your Digital SLRs though that's a different matter. I've never owned an SLR myself.0 -
There's a Fuji here. 75% off. Looks like a good deal to me but I'm not fussed on the touch screen contols personally.

Available refurbished with a 12 month guarantee from fuji for £46.48 delivered with the code P10FEB15 or £53.98 with a free premium case worth £19.99.

I have one of these cameras and never use it, it isn't that great, although there are lots of other better cheap cameras at the fuji shop.0 -

I am into photography (35 years, all kinds of cameras), not just digital SLRs (A 35mm SLR is not a digital SLR).
The OP wants something less than £60, not £150, and I would consider a £5 film camera with basic functions quite a good option.0 -
At first it's hard to ignore the camera snobs ...
If you want to take good photo's a little study on photography is worth more than any camera.0 -
It is possible to get a reasonable camera for less than £60 Jessops have this. http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/80231/show.html might not be the best camera in the world but adequate.
Argos also have a few cameras from major brands as has been said previously don’t get hung up about pixel count and try and find last years model from a major brand.0 -

Wouldn't you agree that the most important thing is the person stood behind the lens? Lighting, content, composure and 'having the camera with you at the time' are the most important things to me, and a lot of other things. Placing an arbitrary value on a camera and saying 'you must spend at least this' is ridiculousness and reeks of pure snobbery.
Anyway, here's a few sub-£60 that the OP could consider:
Nikon Coolpix S2500 http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/80231/show.html
Nikon Coolpix L24 http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/80243/Show.html?tduid=e9cf08fd257c4542c18b317f023661fd&url=http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/80243/Show.html
Canon Powershot A495 http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77046/Show.html?tduid=e9cf08fd257c4542c18b317f023661fd&url=http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/77046/Show.html
Samsung ES30 http://www.parkcameras.com/17406/Samsung-ES30-Black.html?referrer=CamPriceBust
Yes, they'll have naff sensors and naff plastic lenses. They'll be fine for holiday photos, and they'll more likely come out in focus than from a second hand SLR used by someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
I'd probably go for the Nikon Coolpix S2500, out of those cameras http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/nikon_coolpix_s2500_review0 -

You will find loads now as holiday season is coming. With little bit of extra I suggest go for Panasonic DMC FS16. Saw Amazon having deal for around GBP70 for it (Link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004I1KP8Y/ref=asc_df_B004I1KP8Y5521278?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&!!!!!pr-electronics-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B004I1KP8Y)0

It's 12Mpixel, which, as everyone else agrees, is not the measure of a good camera. But it has 5x zoom, which is unusual at this price, and makes a big difference. I have one - I take it everywhere, and don't care if it gets broken. I take my SLR if I'm going to do 'photography'. It's 6Mpixel, but gives much better results. You will get perfectly good snaps from the GE though.0
