Looking for a digial camera for under £60

Has to be at least 10MP. Not bothered if its charged by AA batteries or has an internal battery - like a mobile phone.

My current Samsung camera has a thick black line (.75 inch) through the screen, making taking photos difficult and its just under 2 years old.

Watch out for memory (or lack thereof). No good getting a 10MP camera for under £60 if it will only take 6 pictures. :o

Pixel count is not a measure of quality ...

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: with almost no exceptions, if you are buying a modern consumer digital camera, the number of megapixels it has should be the absolute last thing you consider.

In fact, unless we're talking about a pro or semi-pro DSLR, the more megapixels, the worse! In case the original poster doesn't know it, the more pixels you cram into a sensor, the crappier the image quality is, especially in low light.

In any case, I don't think ANY camera under £60 can produce even half-decent results. Why such a low budget? Going up to as little as £100 can mean a huge difference in quality.

+ 1 for not believing in the megapixel hype.

For that price range, have a look around the shops like Jessops or Jacobs or London Camara exchange for
    • last year's models
    • reconditioned cameras
    • ex-display models
    • and of course second hand
You may get some sort of guarantee buying from these shops.

You can save money if you can re-use the SD card out of the samsung.

There's a Fuji here. 75% off. Looks like a good deal to me but I'm not fussed on the touch screen contols personally.

  • And another for ignoring the megapixels myth. I still remember a conversation I had with someone who saw me with my dslr and was amazed I didn't know how many megapixels it had. Max ISO, max aperture, shutter speed and focal length - yes. Megapixels? Still don't know. My 5 megapixels bridge camera will take better photos than many cheap 12/14 megapixel point and shoot.

On the subject, beware of cheap cameras - you get what you pay for. A friend's hastily bought cheap camera (after breaking the one I told him to get) was so poor my phone took better shots. I looked for a cheap camera for my mum recently. Cheapest quality camera I found was a Canon for around £100.

Unfortunately, its hard to find a point and shoot camera with less than about 8 or 10Mp these days.
But if you only have a £60 budget, then beggars can't be choosers which is why I suggested a camera thats a reputable make and reduced from £200 to £50.

I would not touch a digital camera under £300. You may as well go and buy a 35mm SLR from fleabay for a fiver and learn how to take photos properly.

TBH you are better off shoving some memory in a mobile & using that.
