Definitely taking so long Igamogam but saying that, my OH is the worst hoarder ever. Our house is jam packed full of stuff. If I don't make a stand we'll end up hanging onto our stuff we don't even like for just as long.
Anyway, I've had a clear out of books today and will take them to our local bric-a-brac buying place along with a couple of bags of old clothes. Will possibly get a tenner or so for it all. It all helps, I guess.
New job starts next week. :j I'll need to try and find the extra petrol money from somewhere.
I'm feeling totally overwhelmed today and have been grumping away like crazy at OH who is constantly on about how we need to buy this and we need to buy that. I've been responsible for our finances from when we started living together and it's a massive stress. I wish it would go away. But it never does. Maybe this is my chance.
I still haven't looked at the budget for this month so need to get on and do that. Back in a bit.If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
I've just updated my signature after doing my sums. Since rejoining MSE I've managed to cut my debt by a whopping £25.53.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
This is because of the car breaking down and having to pay a small fortune for someone to come out and tow it to the garage. My breakdown cover is now in place.
At least it hasn't gone up but I'm really starting to see what a long, slow process this will be.
I've cancelled our night out tonight. We can't afford it and I can't be bothered anyway. I may need to cancel our plans for next weekend too and me and OH have started a savings jar for our 2 nights away with my team. All the money for that will have to come from extra we can make. There's £20 in there already from OH's mum so only around £150 to go.
Feel wierdly optimistic. If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
Dont get too down in the dumps. Your debt is going the right way - slowy and surely downwards. The extra income from new job will kick in at some point too:)
The wierd optimism is indeed very wierd. When I had my LBM I felt strangely elated, glad, happy, even euphoric despite the very large number I was staring at, and no idea of how it was ever going to get smaller. Got started on the DFD and whomp got hit with a few large bills, a crisis that needed money to fix it and a so it seemed to go on. I really thought this was a total waste of time and that other people on MSE where just not in the same boat. Head went back in the sand and I lurked a bit more. But I have got the impetus back, something with having to go back to work and get organised I think, and decided if I burbled away to myself on the DFD, putting 'out there' IYSWIM, then I wasnt being an ostrich
Think what I am trying to say is keep that optimism - its a slow journey with lots of little steps forwards and a few steps backwards which sometimes can be planned for and sometimes will just slap you in the face. One thing I have learnt is that we are all in the same boat. There are some really dedicated DFWs that have safely dockedI am determined mine isnt called the Titanic:rotfl:
Getting distracted - must go and get rid of some more junk:DBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I totally see what you mean. The temptation to sink back into denial is constantly present with me. I've never worried so hard about my finances since I started this diary...blame it on the diary?! Previously, I seemed to float along with the belief that 'it will be alright somehow', whilst forking out a fortune in interest payments every month. I feel quite stupid actually, letting it get to this. And I seem to be moving in and out of a sulk about how no-one has it as hard as I do. Which is outrageous when I read the other diaries on here! I so have it easy! No kids, a good job, able to work, etc.
I really need to get a grip.If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -

Congratulations on the job! Very good news indeed. How I identify with every word you've said! You'll get there!"Green pastures are before me,

OH is in a giant strop over a home-made haircut gone wrong. I had to suppress a giggle when I saw it.
Thought I'd venture outside as the sun came out for a minute then. Found a dead mouse on the doormat with its head lying a foot or so away and its spine hanging out. In a single moment my big, loving, furry purrball of a boy cat turned into an evil killing machine. I can't look at hime the same way right now. I know it's his instinct but really, there's no need. He gets fed twice a day the wee !!!!!!.
We've decided to go out tonight after all after being guilt tripped by a mate who wants a lift. I'm not happy about this. We can't afford it and its unlikely his petrol contribution will cover even a fraction of the cost. Note to self: don't even make vague arrangements about car sharing in the future. There's no scope then to change my mind.If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
Is he really a mate? Tell him you can't afford it and see how matey he is then. If your OH gets upset about it, tell him that his haircut is too awful for him to be seen in public with it."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Purrball gets fed TWICE a day - dont tell ours
Once a day only here and carnage throughout the rodent population - they eat everything sometimes leave a tail
but usually the whole lot goes. Except shrews which give off an evil taste apparantly - havent tried them myself. Only cross with mogs when they catch Mr Mole or Mr Bat. Birds dont come in their repetoire much. Had to laugh about haircut - my OH was charged OAP rates the last time he went to have his done - which is a quick zip over on a number 2. Think he was offended at first as he is way off being OAP but then I pointed out the saving so he was happy about that:)
Just make sure next time you are car sharing its NOT your turn:)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
