My new kitten possibly has ringworm (nothing showed up under the light but he has some mild symptoms) and has been prescribed Advocate by the vet, problem is I have two other adult cats and a dog, I think one of the adult cats might have it too, I'm sure the other cat and dog don't but I would like to treat all the animals is there anything I can buy online to treat this similar to advocate but without going to the vets again? Thanks for any suggestions:)
I just googled this and found this http://www.discountpetcare.co.uk/home.aspx sells Advocate but I thought it was a pom (I could be wrong) and they dont appear to need one - anyone used this site before?

Advocate is a POM, so if someone is offering to sell it without, beware! Its very probably not the real thing and could be dangerous for your pet. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0

Thats what I was thinking, so am I right in thinking even my own vet wont sell me Advocate without seeing all three of my other animals first? I'm hoping to find an alternative:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Being a POM, Advocate can only be prescribed to animals under the vet's care. They must see the animal first - whether or not they charge for their time to do this depends on the practice.
There is no non-prescription equivalent to Advocate available.
But I'm a bit confused; Advocate will not treat ringworm, which is a fungal infection. :huh:0 -
Just to be aware humans can catch ringworm too!
It's quite distinctive if an animal does have it, with a round itchy patch and fur loss in that area.0 -
I wouldn't buy anything from that website, POM or not, after reading this thread:

Sorry I didnt realise I had replies on this thread as I'm not a regular user of the pet board, I'm surprised you say this as my vet gave me the Advocate to treat everything including ringworm but not tape worm, and I have to say its worked a treat and very quickly, what would treat ringworm then if not the Advocate?
I didnt buy anything from that site but I'll have a read of that thread.
Thanks everyone for the help:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Advocate is a flea treatment, it doesn't treat ringworm! I'd give the vet a call, see what they say. Maybe you misunderstood what s/he was saying.0

For ringworm I'd see the vet - it's one of those difficult things to treat yourself. Can be pretty contagious as well.0

Ok now I'm really confused dd was with me at the vets and she heard what I heard, that the advocate treats ringworm but on inspection it doesn't say that on the pack but it does seem to of worked and Wally is in much better condition and much happier, perhaps its wasn't ringworm after all but I treated my other adult cat too with the Advocate he is much better now too, I've also treated the other adult cat this morning as she has a bald patch appeared on her back but no other symptoms so we'll see what happens, I've used Wallys treatment in ratio to weight for the other two cats, good job they gave me extra fro free but now I've run out, I'll get some more from the vets when necessary and have a chat to them too, so glad I didn't order from the other site I mentioned - thank for the link Fridaycat:TThank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

Ringworm is NOT a worm contrary to old wives tales. Ringworm is a fungal infection! She must have meant something different, maybe flea allergy? That would cause skin probs?0
