The above post just adds to my hatred of cruises. 'Suggested' but we'll automatically add it to your bill.

You can take it off if you like and cruising is a very nice way to travel LOL;)

One other related question, for spending in the ports we call at on the cruise am I best to use my Post office card ( best for overseas spending) or a prepaid card as I don't want to waste all my Capital one cashback abroad when I can get the full 5% in the UK.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean about "wasting" your Capital One cashback abroad, can you explain?

Surely it doesn't matter whether the spend is abroad or in the UK, it's still 5%.

Hi Luci, I was thinking about the 2.75% loading on the currency rate reducing the cashback, have I got that wrong?

Ah yes, I see what you mean. You will get 2.25% net using it abroad and the full 5% using it in the UK.

If there is a limit on the amount you get 5% on, and you are likely to reach this spending in the UK, you might be better using the PO card abroad.

If there is no limit, or you are unlikely to reach the maximum spend in the UK, then you are better using the card with cashback.
  • I am new to cruises, I have been told that I can cancel the service charge once on board the ship and obtain some envelopes to the people I want. Is this true?

As a rule you can cancel the standard charges & just get envelopes for the ones you wish to tip, table wiaters, room steward etc.
Thogh I am not sure about Celebrity Cruises

I thought I had seen a guide on here to say which cruise firms allowed this but cannot find it.
