My own cable modem or with VM?

I currently have 10MB speed with VM, and they want extra £6 p/m for 30MB, then they would give me wireless modem free. Should I go for this or buy my own wireless modem?

I know I need a cable modem, but don't really know which one I should go for, as my knowledge is limited, please help?

I hope the set up on the new modem is easy too.

Chain stores would be helpful for purchasing.

Thanks

You can't nowadays use your own cable modem on the VM network. The days of customers buying their own cable modems have long gone. The only place you are likely to find cable modems is on Ebay or Freecycle but they won't work as you wont be able to register them.

You can buy any cable / DSL (not ADSL) router and connect to the VM supplied cable modem.

You would also be handling stolen property as well.

The modem you already have will handle 30Mbit, so no need for Virgin to send you the "superdud" as a replacement.
Buy your own wireless router and use that in conjunction with your existing modem, because the superdud truly is a piece of $hite.

No VM 10Mbps modems will work on 30Mbps. 30Mbps and above use DOCSIS 3.

It isn't necessary to upgrade to 30Mbps to use a wireless cable modem though and the Superhub certainly is anything but Super.

If you want faster you'll need to take a VM upgrade. If all you want is wireless then buy a wireless cable router. There are loads to choose from and with only 10Mbs and obviously no knowledge of routers you may as well get the cheapest you find. DON'T buy an ADSL one because it won't work.
