Hi everyone,

We just can't keep up with you any more.

We're spending all our time:-
  1. Moving non-OS threads
  2. Merging threads where people just haven't bothered to search - we've even had two threads WITH THE SAME TITLE posted onto the board so close together that they're right next door to each other ON PAGE ONE fer crying out loud...
  3. Sorting out posts such as "Inspired by _this_ thread I've decided/done..." Well PLEASE just JOIN that thread instead of starting a new one.
The board is busy seven days a week and we're simply not getting the TIME to actually help people who REALLY NEED it now - so at this very moment you've got two seriously overworked and TICKED OFF BG's all ready to "take a break".

Harumph!

  • Can we get off the naughty chair yet? As usual O/S is a victim of it's own success and popularity and everyone is fired up with tons of zeal for a whole new year of savings and getting carried away. It's really good and heartening at the same time as being a pain in the bum for our minders....

Yes - I've noticed that other boards are pointing people to OS for help in reducing their food bills. Those of us that have been on a little longer will notice that similar questions are coming up - we can help out by pointing people to older threads. A lot of people are beginning to 1) see the benefit of OS living and 2) feeling the pinch post Christmas.
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

Thanks both, and yes, you can get off the naughty chair :)

I'd like to add that in fact we do notice and appreciate it when our more experienced members help our newer ones to find their feet and give them pointers to threads and information that they are looking for.

I'm remiss at times in not always tapping the "Thanks" button when I see this. I'm so often so deep into "work" mode these days that as soon as I see that a post has been "dealt with" that my brain is automatically shouting

    "Next!!"

and off I go at high speed to see what else I can help with.

So if you've been very good :) and I haven't said Thank You at the time, believe me - I've also heaved a sigh of relief and thanks as I move on.

This really is a great board, with lots of terrific members - which is why it's so darn busy!

    :D

Awww, Squeaky - it's a shame you and Pink are so far away from me, it'd be nice to give you both a treatment as it was this board that helped me get back on my feet enough to get back to college & retrain.
If I've been a 'bad' girl at all lately I do appologise ( I honestly do search like crazy and try to find my own answers - but I think that some times I might 'chat' more than some would like :o)
I promise to try and be good this year.
    Hugs to you both,

On the subject of self help, with regard to some of the longer threads such as some of the gardening ones and recipe collections - there is a search link just for that one thread towards the top right of a page, here:-

    searchthread.gif

So if you're only interested in "tomato" posts (in either of those two examples) then putting the word you want to rread about in the box will give you a list of only those posts in that thread so that you don't have to browse through the whole lot.

    HTH :)

Not particularly on this board, but in general I find the Search facility is pretty wonky. I know I have been guilty of posting on other boards after giving up the search for an existing post, especially if it's something I think other people would be pleased to hear about fairly quickly.

I can't imagine how you mods keep on top of things. Thanks.

Aww thanks, and don't worry about it.

It's no one person, and no real "fault".

It's just that with hundreds of posts per day it only takes one post per week per member needing help and we're swamped. So we're just asking that if you (in the general sense) can just check that you are indeed posting in the right forum / thread then we'll get that bit more time to help those who are new to Old Style and, in many cases, new to posting on forums altogether.

And yes, a massage would be lovely right now :)

Yep. We know the search is pretty poor - it drives us nuts when we're trying to find things for people. Pink is ace at this :)

That's why I used to spend so much time collecting things into indexes, which, while they only list older posts and not more recent ones, can still be very useful as a first port of call. That's another thing I don't get the time for these days.

Im new to this board and im probably guilty of such posts but im just trying to find my way around. I have been bookmarking tons on older threads that I think will be of help to me to save asking questions that you guys have probably answered loads of times before. I think its maybe newer members are also trying to find there way around but hopefully the work load will ease up for you guys now, thanks for all the hard work you all do
