Charging for a receipt from a corner shop??

    When I worked in retail, around 15 years ago, receipt or bag were deemed proof of purchase by the company I worked for.

    I think I would ask them next time before I buy and walk out if they indicate they will charge.

    You don't mean an actual carrier bag right?

    But isn't illegal not to provide one when requested if the vendor is charging VAT?

    AFAIK there's no VAT on newspapers.. :)

    But there is on other items. This is a corner shop, not specifically a newsagent. (Even then, newsagents sell much more than newspapers). :)

    Yep they used to do it at woolworths as long as it was a current design and the store branded carrier bag they used that as proof
